Cardinals Place Gallegos On IL
5/7/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals bullpen will be missing one of its top players for at least two weeks. St. Louis placed reliever Giovanny Gallegos on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement yesterday. Gallegos has been a strong option out of the bullpen since coming to St. Louis in 2018, but he's 2-and-1 with a 12.00 ERA in 13 games this season. The team called up right-hander Chris Roycroft to replace Gallegos on the roster.



Cardinals Fall To Mets

The St. Louis Cardinals gave up a go-ahead run in the top of the seventh during a 4-3 loss to the Mets at Busch Stadium. The game was tied at three entering the inning before Brandon Nimmo took Andrew Kittredge deep. Kittredge was charged with the loss in relief, and Ivan Herrera finished with two RBI. The Cardinals are in last place in the NL Central at 15-and-20. They send Miles Mikolas to the mound against the Mets tonight.



NBA Playoff Recap
5/7/2024
The road to the NBA Finals continued on Monday. The Minnesota Timberwolves took a 2-0 series lead over the defending champion Denver Nuggets following a dominant 106-80 win at Ball Arena. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns tied with a team-high 27 points with the series heading back to Minneapolis for Game Three on Friday. In the East, Jalen Brunson led the New York Knicks to a 121-117 takedown of the Indiana Pacers in Game One from Madison Square Garden. Brunson poured in 43 points as the Knicks took a 1-0 series lead.



NHL Playoff Recap
5/7/2024
The Bruins took center stage in Monday's edition of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Boston blew out the Panthers 5-1 in Sunrise to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference second round series. Justin Brazeau and Mason Lohrei netted their first-career playoff goals, while Morgan Geekie, Brandon Carlo and Jake DeBrusk also found the back of the net. Game Two takes place from Amerant Bank Arena on Wednesday.

Baseball
Salem Tournament-Championship Game-Pacific vs. Licking-Rained out.  

Salem Tournament-Sullivan went 2-1 and finished 3rd in the Tournament with an 8-1 win over Salem Saturday.  

Sunday-Sullivan lost to Lutheran South 7-0 at Busch Stadium.  Brendan Graves pitched a complete game 4 hitter with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks.  Connor Terbrock was 3 for 4 with 2 runs for the Lancers.  Mac Floyd 1 hit with 2 rbi.  Lutheran South is 15-14.  Sullivan falls to 16-8.  

Warrenton lost game 1 of a doubleheader against Troy 4-2 and tied the second game 1-1.  Game 2 was called after 15 innings.  Warrenton is 20-4-1.

Hermann lost both games of a split doubleheader to Capital City 6-1 and Hannibal 13-8.  Hermann is 9-20.  



City Draws With Houston

St. Louis City SC are on a four-match point streak following a scoreless draw against the Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday. City managed just three shots on net during the tie. St. Louis is in ninth place in the Western Conference with two wins, seven draws, and one loss for 13 points. The club hosts Chicago on Saturday.



Cardinals Lose To White Sox
5/6/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals dropped the rubber match of their weekend series against the Chicago White Sox 5-1 at Busch Stadium. The game was tied entering the seventh when Giovanny Gallegos surrendered a go-ahead home run to Eloy Jimenez. The Sox plated three more runs after the Jimenez solo shot. Willson Contreras homered in the losing effort, while Gallegos was tagged with the loss out of the pen. St. Louis is in last place in the NL Central at 15-and-19. The Cardinals send Kyle Gibson to the mound against the Mets tonight.

The first round of the NBA playoffs is in the books. The Cleveland Cavaliers locked up the final spot in the conference semifinals with a 106-94 takedown of the Orlando Magic in Game Seven at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Donovan Mitchell poured in 39 points to help the Cavs advance, where they will square off against the Boston Celtics. The action continues on Monday with a pair of highly anticipated contests.

There will be a new Stanley Cup champion crowned this postseason. The Stars knocked-off the defending champion Golden Knights 2-1 in Game Seven of the opening round Western Conference series from Dallas. The Stars will face the Colorado Avalanche in Round Two. Out East, the Rangers took an early, 1-0 series lead over the Hurricanes in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference second round series. New York used a three-goal first period to edge Carolina 4-3 at Madison Square Garden.

Vianney 9 Union 1.  Gavin Mabe doubled home Aaron Sterner in the first inning, but it was all Vianney from that point.  The Golden Griffins improve to 15-16-1. Union drops to 20-8.  

Jefferson 12 St. Clair 1.  The Bulldogs were held to 1 hit.  St. Clair drops to 6-13.  Jefferson moves to 13-9.  

Pacific 12 Windsor 1.  Trey Kulick pitched a complete game with 5 strikeouts and  no walks.  He also chipped in 3 hits with 2 rbi.  Ethan Broser added 3 hits, 1 run and 1 rbi.  Xavian Cox 2 hits, 2 rbi.  Colton Kossuth with a home run, 2 hits and 2 rbi and Joey Mach 2 hits with 1 rbi.  The Indians improve to 17-5.  The Owls drop to 8-14-1.

Washington 6 Pacific 0.  Susie Heggemann led Washington with 2 goals.  Williams, Tinsley, Moore and Sneed added with 1 goal each.  The Blue Jays are 13-9.  Pacific falls to 12-4-1.  

Parkway West 3 Borgia 2.  Abigail Schutte and Madison Lieberoff scored and Kate Snider made 16 saves in net for Borgia, now 8-12.  

St. Clair 8 De Soto 0.  Kadence Gardner with a hat-trick and single tallies from Meek, Daniels, Merseal, Moore and Thompson.  St. Clair improves to 11-7-1.  

Pohlman, Adams, Lohden and Newman all found the back of the net leading Sullivan to a 4-0 win at Dixon.  The Eagles improve to 13-7-2.  

St. James beat Owensville 3-2 in PK.  The Tigers are 3-13 and the Dutchgirls fall to 6-14.  


Golf-Class 3 District 2 at Innsbrook.  Borgia took 7th as a team with a score of 356.  Priory was first with 300.  Borgia had no state qualifiers.  Samuel Tuepker shot an 82 and missed the cut by one stroke.  

Class 4 District 1 at Crowne Point in Farmington.  Washington 8th-336.  Union 9th-342.  Pacific 14th-372.  Poplar Bluff was first with a 280.  Alex Fregalette of Washington qualified for state with a 6 over par 78.  

Class 2 District 2 at Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal.  Hermann won the title with a team score of 319.  Trigg Lindahl was the low individual with a 5 under 67.  Easton Stiers 5 over 77.  Emory Lindahl-86.  Max Miller-89.  Nolan Brune-92.  


Boys Volleyball-First Round of the District Tournament-Borgia beat Westminster in 5.  Logan Bender led the way in kills with 14.  Kaden Parmentier added 12 kills.  Jack Meyers posted 19 digs.  Harris Robinson logged 16 assists with Bender adding 14.  Bender and Robinson had 2 aces each.  Borgia will host Lafayette at 5:00 Tuesday evening.  




Battlehawks Take Down Roughnecks

St. Louis Battlehawks 22 Houston Roughnecks 8.

AJ McCarron was 24 for 37 for 255 yards and three touchdowns.  

Hakeen Butler-6 catches for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns.  

Jacob Saylors-18 carries for 18 yards.  

St. Louis is 5-1 and will travel to Birmingham for a game against the Stallions Saturday, May 11 at 3:00.

The St. Louis Cardinals return home to take on the Chicago White Sox in a weekend series that starts tonight at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals are coming off a series loss to the Detroit Tigers earlier this week. St. Louis is in fourth place in the NL Central at 14-and-17. Sonny Gray mans the rubber for the Cards tonight. First pitch is at 7:15PM.



City Visits Houston

St. Louis City SC look to extend their point streak to four matches when they visit the Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium tomorrow. City were off last week, but they are coming off a 3-3 draw with Sporting KC on April 20th. St. Louis is in ninth place in the Western Conference with two wins, six draws, and one loss for 12 points. Tomorrow's match kicks off at 7:30PM.

Sophia Helling scored the only goal of the game leading Union to a 1-0 win at Pacific in the Four Rivers Conference Championship game.  Ava Sykes had the assist.  The Wildcats move to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in conference.  Pacific falls to 12-3-1 and 4-1.  

Fort Zumwalt South 4 Washington 1.  Jailyn Brownlee scored 2 goals for the Bulldogs, now 12-5 overall and 8-1 in the GAC Central.  The Blue Jays fall to 11-9 and 3-7.  

Duchesne was up 4-0 on Borgia with 10 minutes to go when the game was called due to lightning.  The Pioneers move to 7-8 while Borgia drops to 7-11.

The East's top-seeded Boston Celtics punched their ticket to the conference semifinals with a dominant 118-84 Game Five win over the Miami Heat that clinched the series. In the West, the Dallas Mavericks crushed the Los Angeles Clippers 123-93 in Game Five to take the series lead. The Mavs will look up to lock up their spot in the second round in Game Six on Friday, while the Clippers are aiming to force a Game Seven. The action continues tonight with a pair of Game Six matchups. The Pacers host the Bucks, while the Knicks visit 76ers. A win by the Pacers and Knicks will send them to the second round.

Connor McDavid and the Oilers are heading to the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Edmonton edged the Kings 4-3 at home in Game Five to earn a 4-1 series win. The Oilers will face the winner of the Canucks-Predators series in Round Two of the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the defending Stanley Cup champions are on the verge of elimination out West. The Stars dispatched the Golden Knights 3-2 from Dallas to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven series. Game Six takes place in Vegas on Friday. The spotlight shines on Toronto for the lone playoff game tonight. The Leafs will try to force a Game Seven in their Eastern Conference series against the Bruins.



Springfield Gets Crushed By Tulsa

The Springfield Cardinals managed just three hits during an 11-0 loss to the Tulsa Drillers at OneOk Field yesterday. Springfield gave up three runs in the second and trailed the rest of the way. Tekoah Roby was charged with his first loss after surrendering six runs on nine hits in four-and-a-third innings. The 15-and-8 Cardinals send Edwin Nunez to the mound against the Drillers this evening.



Mizzou Football Adds Two Transfers

The Mizzou Tigers are bolstering their defense. Former Michigan linebacker Jeremiah Beasley and former Georgia Tech defensive end Eddie Kelly both committed to the Tigers football program yesterday. Beasley did not appear in a game with the Wolverines last season, while Kelly recorded 37 tackles and a half-sack with the Yellow Jackets in 2023.



Blues Sign F Stenberg

The St. Louis Blues are adding another Swedish Hockey League player to their roster. The team signed forward Otto Stenberg to a three-year entry-level deal yesterday. Stenberg was drafted by St. Louis in the first round of the NHL Draft last season. He had three goals and three assists in 31 games with Frolunda HC in the SHL last season.



Cardinals Fall To Tigers

The St. Louis Cardinals dropped their series finale with the Detroit Tigers 4-1 at Comerica Park. The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead before Willson Contreras got St. Louis on the board with a solo shot in the fourth, but the Cardinals weren't able to scratch another run across the rest of the way. Miles Mikolas was charged with his fourth loss after giving up three runs on six hits in six innings. The 14-and-17 Cardinals host the White Sox tomorrow night.



Report: Chiefs Sign TE Travis Kelce To Two-Year Extension

The Chiefs are rewarding their superstar tight end with a new contract. ESPN reports that Kansas City is signing Travis Kelce to a two-year extension worth 34-and-a-quarter-million dollars. The deal includes 17-million dollars fully guaranteed for this season, with the rest of the money set to be guaranteed on the third day of the 2025 league year. The nine-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion finished last season with 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns.



Springfield Rallies In Fifth

The Springfield Cardinals scored four runs in the top of the fifth during a 6-2 win over the Tulsa Drillers at OneOk Field. Bryan Torres broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run double in the inning, and Nathan Church drove in a run later in the frame. Tink Hence improved to 3-and-0 after striking out ten and holding Tulsa to one run on two hits in seven innings. Tekoah Roby starts for the 15-and-7 Cardinals against the Drillers tonight.



Blues Add Two Players From Swedish Hockey League

The St. Louis Blues are dipping into the international talent pool. The Blues signed forward Marcus Sylvegard and defenseman Samuel Johannesson to contracts yesterday. Both players will make their way over from the Swedish Hockey League. Sylvegard's deal is a one-year entry-level contract, while Johannesson's is a two-year agreement. Sylvegard had 23 goals and 18 assists in 51 games with Vaxjo last season, and Johannesson had 11 goals and 16 assists with Orebro.



Cardinals Split Doubleheader With Tigers

The St. Louis Cardinals went 1-and-1 during their doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park yesterday. St. Louis scored two runs in the top of the ninth to win game one 2-1. Alec Burleson tied the game with an RBI single, and Pedro Pages gave St. Louis the lead with a sacrifice fly. Matthew Liberatore earned the win in relief, while Ryan Helsley picked up his tenth save. In the second game, the Cardinals gave up 14 hits in an 11-6 loss. Burleson and Brendan Donovan both homered in the losing effort, and Kyle Leahy was charged with the loss out of the pen. The 14-and-16 Cardinals send Miles Mikolas to the mound against the Tigers this afternoon.

Jake Collier allowed just 1 run on 4 hits with 16 strikeouts and 1 walk over 6 innings and Pacific held on for a 3-2 win over Sullivan to win the Four Rivers Conference title.  The Indians scored single runs in the first, second and third innings,  Sullivan scored one run in the 5th, added another run in the 7th and had the tying run on 2nd with one out.  The game ended with a 1-3-2 double play.  Xavian Cox pitched the 7th for the save.  Trey Kulick had 3 hits, with Colton Kossuth and Collier adding 2 hits each.  Drake Gawer suffered the loss.  Gawer had 2 hits for the Eagles.  Pacific improves to 15-5 and 7-0.  Sullivan falls to 14-6 and 5-2.  

Warrenton used 3 pitchers to hold Union to 3 hits in a 6-0 win over the Wildcats.  Ben Peth pitched 3 innings with 3 strikeouts for the win.  Carter Martin and Troy Anderson pitched 2 innings each.  Colin Disilvestor was 2 for 3 with 2 rbi, 1 run and a stolen base.  Austin Haas 2 for 4 with 2 runs and a stolen base.  Warrenton is 20-3.  Union falls to 19-7.  

Noah Hendrickson, Jack Nobe, Braxtyn Frankenburg and Brody O'Hanlon logged 2 rbi each leading Borgia to a 10-0 win over Hermann in 5 innings.  Drew Eckhoff, Hendrickson and Frankenburg with 2 hits and Reagan Kandlbinder pitched a complete game 1 hitter.  The Knights improve to 16-7.  Hermann drops to 9-18.  Trace Erfling suffered the loss.  

Holt 13 Washington 3.  The Blue Jays were held to 4 hits.  Hayden Burns was 2 for 3 with a stolen base and Mason Theis was 1 for 2 with a run scored.  Washington used 3 pitchers.  Ben Loesing suffered the loss.  Washington falls to 4-22 and 2-7 in the GAC.  Holt moves to 8-15 and 2-5.  

Jayden Fitzgerald delivered a walk-off infield hit in St. Clair's 3-2 win over Herculaneum.  Fitzgerald also got the win on the mound with a complete game, 5 hits, 5 strikeouts, 2 walks and 2 earned runs.  Tylor Thurman was 3 for 3 for the Bulldogs, now 6-12.  St. Clair has won 3 out of 4.   Herky falls to 5-10.  

Chase Weirich pitched 5 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk leading Owensville to a 10-3 win over Vienna.  Coleton Skiles closed it out.  Weirich was 2 for 4 with a double and 1 rbi.  Layne Evans 2 for 3 with 1 rbi and Chris Allen posted a double with 2 rbi.  The Dutchmen improve to 9-12.  Vienna falls to 12-10.  

Stoutland 11 St. James 3.  St. James drops to 2-15.  Stoutland is 7-9.

Lexi Clark netted the game winning goal in the final minute giving Pacific a 2-1 win over Sullivan.  The Indians improve to 12-2-1 overall and 4-0 in conference.  Sullivan, now 12-7-2 and 3-2, received a goal from Molly Lohden.  

Greta Bettinelli notched a hat-trick leading St. Clair to an 8-0 win over Owensville.  Kadence Gardner and Shea Daniels with 2 goals each and Marissa Sullivan scored her first varsity goal.  The Bulldogs are 9-6-1.  Owensville falls to 6-13.  

Blair Oaks edged St. James 2-1 in double overtime.  The Falcons are 13-7.  The Tigers are 1-12.  

Ella Rosenburg scored 2 goals leading Fort Zumwalt North to a 2-0 win over Washington.  The Panthers improve to 11-6 and 6-3 in the GAC Central.  The Blue Jays fall to 11-8 and 3-6.

The road to the NBA Finals continued on Monday. The Nuggets and Thunder both punched their tickets to the Western Conference semifinals. The Nuggets won a thriller 108-106 over the Lakers in Game Five at Ball Arena. Jamal Murray scored the game-winner with 3.6 seconds remaining to help the reigning champs advance. Elsewhere, OKC completed a sweep of the Pelicans with a 97-89 victory in the Big Easy. In the East, the Celtics beat the Heat 102-88 to take a 3-1 series lead heading back to Beantown. The action continues tonight with three more contests. The Knicks host the 76ers, the Magic visit the Cavaliers, and the Bucks entertain the Pacers.

Another NHL club in the East punched their ticket to the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Panthers blew out their in-state rival Tampa Bay Lightning 6-1 in Game Five from Sunrise to win the series 4-1. Carter Verhaeghe [[ uhr-HAY-gee ]] and Sasha Barkov each scored a pair of goals in the clincher. Florida will play the winner of the Bruins-Leafs series. Out West, The Stars knotted their series against the Golden Knights at two games apiece following a 4-2 victory in Game Four from Vegas. Four games are on the slate for Tuesday. The Bruins-Leafs, Islanders-Hurricanes, Avalanche-Jets and Predators-Canucks are all in action.



Springfield Visits Tulsa

The Springfield Cardinals hit the road and begin a six-game series with the Tulsa Drillers at OneOk Field tonight. The Cardinals come into the game as the first-place team in the Texas League North Division at 14-and-7, while Tulsa is in third place at 10-and-10. Tink Hence starts for Springfield tonight. Carlson Begins Rehab Assignment Tonight

Dylan Carlson will be back in the Cardinals line-up soon. The St. Louis outfielder starts a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis tonight. Carlson is recovering from a sprained left AC joint that he suffered when he collided with Jordan Walker in a Spring Training game last month. Carlson will be the designated hitter tonight. He hit .219 with five home runs and 27 RBI in 76 games last season.



Cardinals Game Gets Postponed Due To Rain

The series opener between the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers was rained out yesterday in Detroit. The game will be made up this afternoon as part of a traditional doubleheader. The Cardinals send Kyle Gibson to the mound in the first game, while Steven Matz toes the rubber for St. Louis is game two. The first contest begins at 2:40PM.



Report: Chiefs Sign TE Travis Kelce To Two-Year Extension

The Chiefs are rewarding their superstar tight end with a new contract. ESPN reports that Kansas City is signing Travis Kelce to a two-year extension worth 34.25-million dollars. The deal includes 17-million dollars fully guaranteed for this season, with the rest of the money set to be guaranteed on the third day of the 2025 league year. The nine-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion finished last season with 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns. Kelce has compiled 907 catches for 11,328 yards and 74 touchdowns throughout his 11-year career.



NHL Playoff Recap

The Rangers became the first team to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Blueshirts took down the Washington Capitals 4-2 in Game Four to sweep their first-round Eastern Conference series. Elsewhere, the Avalanche took a 3-1 series lead over the Jets following a 5-1 victory. The Canucks share the same advantage following a 4-3, overtime win against the Predators. The Oilers are also enjoying a 3-1 lead after a 1-0 victory over the Kings. The puck drops for a pair of games on Monday. The Panthers look to eliminate the Lightning in Game Five from Sunrise and the Golden Knights eye a 3-1 series lead over the Stars in Game Four from Vegas.

Reagan Kandlbinder singled in the game winning run in the bottom of the 7th and Borgia walked off Washington 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader.  Kandlbinder also posted the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief.  

In game 2, Jack Nobe pitched a complete game 2 hitter with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk over 5 innings.  Noah Hendrickson hit his 6th homer of the season and Tyler Kromer tripled and finished with 4 rbi as Borgia improved to 14-7 with the 11-1 final.  Ethan Roewe suffered the loss in game 1 and Henry Vedder in game 2.  Roewe was 3 for 3 in game 1.  Washington drops to 4-21.

Borgia banged out 14 hits in a 13-0 win at St. Clair.  Kaden Patke pitched 3 innings with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk for the win.  Lane Roettering closed it out.  Jack Nobe went 4 for 4, Reagan Kandlbinder was 3 for 3 with a 2 run homer.  Drew Eckhoff and Noah Hendrickson added 2 hits each.  Borgia improves to 15-7.  St. Clair, now 5-12, was led by Jayden Fitzgerald with 2 hits.  Easton Martin suffered the loss.

Kloey O'Connell scored 2 goals leading Washington past Sullivan 5-0.  Susie Heggemann, Lilly Thornton and Addison Vodnansky added 1 goal each for the Blue Jays, now 11-7.  Lanemann and Sperry with 1 assist each.  Nora Mendoza made 5 saves in net.  Sullivan falls to 12-6-2.

Borgia beat Holt in 5.  Harris Robinson logged 14 kills and 21 assists and Kayden Parmentier added 9 kills.   Robinson also added to his STL leading aces with 5.  Borgia  improves to 9-11.

Noah hit his team leading 6th home run of the season Saturday in a win over Washington.  

He is second on the team in RBI with 16.  

Statistics:  Batting Average-340.  Onbase-476.  Slugging-720.

Noah does a good job behind the plate.  He blocks balls in the dirt and has a good arm.

Noah will attend Jefferson College in Hillsboro and play baseball.

Springfield Collapses In Ninth

The Springfield Cardinals surrendered seven runs in the top of the ninth during a 15-8 loss to the Arkansas Travelers at Hammons Field. Ian Bedell was charged with the loss in relief. Matt Lloyd hit a home run and drove in four runs, while Jacob Buchberger also went deep. Springfield visits Tulsa tomorrow night.



Five More Mizzou Players Get Drafted
4/29/2024
The Mizzou Tigers were well-represented on days two and three of the NFL Draft. After Darius Robinson was chosen by the Cardinals in the first round, cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper were drafted on day two by the Lions and Packers, respectively. On day three, Jacksonville picked offensive tackle Javon Foster, Denver selected cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, and Indianapolis nabbed safety Jaylon Carlies. Five other former Tigers signed as undrafted free agents after the Draft, including running back Cody Schrader.



Cardinals Get Walked Off By Mets

The St. Louis Cardinals came up on the wrong end of a walk-off home run during a 4-2 11-inning loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field. The Cardinals took the lead in the 11th when Brendan Donovan hit an RBI single, but the Mets tied things up with an RBI single from Harrison Bader. Mark Vientos ended the game with a walk-off home run in the next at-bat. Matthew Liberatore was charged with the loss in relief. The 13-and-15 Cardinals send Steven Matz to the mound against Detroit tonight.



NBA Playoff Recap

The road to the NBA Finals continued on Sunday. The Timberwolves punched their ticket to the Western Conference semifinals with a 122-116 victory over the Suns that completed the four-game sweep. The Knicks took down the 76ers 97-92 at the Wells Fargo Center. Jalen Brunson scored a Knicks playoff-record 47 points to help New York take a 3-1 series lead. The Pacers beat the Bucks 126-113 to take a 3-1 series lead. In the West, the Clippers defeated the Mavericks 116-111 in Game Four to even up the series. The action continues tonight with three more contests. The Heat host the Celtics, the Thunder visit the Pelicans, and the Nuggets entertain the Lakers.



NFL Draft Day 2 Recap

The second day of the 2024 NFL Draft from Detroit is in the books. A plethora of talented new playmakers were drafted in the second and third rounds on Friday. The second round began with the Buffalo Bills selection of Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman, who is expected to fill the void left by star wideout Stefon Diggs' trade to Houston this offseason. The LA Chargers then drafted Georgia wideout Ladd McConkey 34th overall, before the Philadelphia Eagles took standout Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean with the 40th pick. In the third round, the LA Rams took Michigan running back Blake Corum with the 83rd overall selection. He was the fifth of seven former Michigan players that have been drafted during the first three rounds. The draft will wrap up with the fourth through seventh rounds taking place on Saturday.

Former Mizzou DL Darius Robinson drafted to Arizona Cardinals

A former Missouri defensive lineman has been selected in the first round of the NFL Draft to play for the Arizona Cardinals. Darius Robinson tells ESPN he's ready to get to work as soon as possible. In his five years at Mizzou, Robinson played 47 games and got 111 career tackles. He was as chosen as the 27th overall pick in the first round Thursday. Robinson played 47 games for Missouri over five years and finished his career with 13 sacks and had seven straight games with a sack.

The St. Louis Cardinals will try to dig themselves out of the NL Central cellar when they begin a weekend series against the New York Mets at Citi Field. The Cardinals just picked up a series win over the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this week, but they remain in last place in their division at 11-and-14. Miles Mikolas is slated to toe the rubber for St. Louis tonight. First pitch is at 6:10PM



NFL Draft Round One Recap

The first night of the 2024 NFL Draft had its fair share of offensive players fly off the board. A record 23 offensive players were taken in the first round. The Chicago Bears kicked off the night by selecting USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. The Washington Commanders followed that by taking LSU signal caller Jayden Daniels. The New England Patriots made it three straight quarterbacks taken to start the draft after selecting North Carolina's Drake Maye. The draft continues tonight with rounds two and three. The final four rounds will take place tomorrow.



Cardinals Send OF Walker To Memphis

The St. Louis Cardinals are sending one of their struggling young starts to Triple-A. The club demoted outfield Jordan Walker to Memphis yesterday. Walker is following up his solid rookie season with a sophomore slump, hitting just .155 with no home runs and four RBI in 20 games. The Cards also demoted left-handed pitcher Zack Thompson to Memphis and recalled infielders Jose Fermin and John King.



Cardinals Cruise Past D'backs In Rubber Match

Kyle Gibson tossed six innings of one-run ball as the Cardinals cruised past the Diamondbacks 5-1 in St. Louis. Gibson struck out six as he evened his record at 2-and-2. Lars Nootbaar hit a two-run double, while Nolan Arenado plated a run and scored for the Redbirds, who took two-of-three in the series. St. Louis is now 11-and-14 on the season. The Cardinals visit the Mets tomorrow night.

The NFL draft is finally here. Round one kicks off tonight from Detroit. The Bears have the first-overall pick and are essentially guaranteed to select USC star quarterback Caleb Williams. The Commanders have the second pick and are expected to select LSU gunslinger and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. The Patriots have the third selection and, despite rumors of potentially trading the pick, are likely to take North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.

Kasey Griffin allowed 2 hits over six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and was also 2 for 4 at the plate leading Union to an 8-0 win at Hermann.  Aaron Sterner doubled twice and Gavin Mabe doubled and singled for the Wildcats, now 19-6 overall and 6-1 in conference.  Hermann falls to 9-17 and 1-5.  Hermann used four pitchers.  Trent Lampkin suffered the loss.  

Andrew Henke was 2 for 3 with a double and 1 rbi leading St. Dominic to a 2-1 win at Borgia. Brennan Swindler pitched 6 innings for the win and Cooper Smith pitched the 7th for the save.  The Crusaders improve to 17-6.  Noah Hendrickson was 1 for 2 with a home run for Borgia, now 12-7.  Braxtyn Frankenburg was 2 for 3.   Charlie Gildehaus pitched 5 innings in the set back.

Pacific jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and cruised past New Haven 25-1.  Trey Kulich was 3 for 4 with 2 rbi.  Colton Kossuth 3 for 4 with 4 rbi.  Ethan Broser 2 rbi.  Seth Stack and Hagen Hassell had their first varsity hits.  Pacific improves to 14-4 and 6-0.   The Shamrocks fall to 2-12 and 1-4.

Springfield Takes Down Arkansas

The Springfield Cardinals survived a late Arkansas rally during a 7-6 win at Hammons Field. Springfield led by two in the top of the ninth when Hogan Windish drove in a run with a single, but the game-tying run was gunned down by Chris Rotondo at home to end the game. Noah Mendlinger had two hits and three RBI in the victory. Andre Granillo earned the win in relief, and Matt Svanson picked up his third save. The 14-and-3 Cardinals send Tekoah Roby to the mound against Arkansas tonight.

Game 1-Hayden Burns 2 for 2 with a stolen base.  Ryan Williams 1 for 3 with a diving catch in left field.  Ben Loesing suffered the loss.  For Zumwalt South, Carter Cox struck out 9 with 1 walk over 5 innings and Connor Henke was 1 for 2 with 1 run and 2 rbi. 
Game 2-Henke pitched a complete game 2 hitter with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.  Jackson Tankersley 2 for 5 with 1 run and 1 rbi.  Andrew Elbert tripled with a run scored for Washington.  
The Bulldogs are 17-4 overall and 8-0 in the GAC Central.  The Blue Jays are 4-19 and 2-6.

Cole Traub pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts leading Hermann to a 16-1 win over St. James.  Charlie Tyree hit a grand slam and finished with 5 rbi and Chase Romig posted 3 hits with 2 rbi.  The Bearcats are 9-16 overall and 1-4 in conference.  St. James falls to 2-13 and 0-6.

Cambrian Koch allowed 2 unearned runs with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks in 6 innings leading Sullivan to a 5-2 win over Jefferson Festus.  The Eagles improve to 13-5.  Jefferson drops to 11-7.  

Warrenton clinched the GAC North title with a 3-0 win at St. Charles West.  Ben Peth pitched a complete game 2 hitter with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.  Mason Thompson was 2 for 3 with a stolen base and 2 rbi.  Warrenton improves to 18-3 overall and 9-0 in conference.  St. Charles West is 10-10 and 7-2.  Ben Goering went the distance with 7 strikeouts in the loss.

Memphis Athletic Director Laird Veatch Headed To Missouri

Memphis athletic director Laird Veatch is headed to Missouri. The Commercial Appeal reports Veatch will become the Tigers' next AD. During his tenure at Memphis, Veatch hired football head coach Ryan Silverfield, dealt with an I-A-R-P investigation of the men's basketball program, and recently saw the school secure a 25-million dollar NIL partnership with FedEx. He replaces Desiree Reed-Francois, who took the Arizona athletic director position earlier this year.



Cardinals Get Crushed By Diamondbacks

The St. Louis Cardinals got knocked around for 15 hits during a 14-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium. The Cards gave up four runs in the third and sixth innings and surrendered six more in the fifth. Willson Contreras homered in the losing effort, while Steven Matz was charged with his second loss of the season after allowing seven runs on six hits in four-and-a-third innings. The 10-and-14 Cardinals send Kyle Gibson to the mound against the Diamondbacks today.



MU Board Of Curators To Vote On New AD Contract

The University of Missouri Board of Curators will meet today to approve the contract of the new Director of Athletics. University officials announced yesterday that Laird Veatch has been named as the next AD for Mizzou. He begins his new position May 1st. Veatch comes to Missouri after serving in the same role at the University of Memphis.



Gorman's Blast Lifts Cards Past D'backs

Nolan Gorman drilled a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Cardinals past the Diamondbacks 5-3 in St. Louis. The winning blast snapped an 0-for-19 slump at the plate for Gorman. Paul Goldschmidt also homered against his former team as the Cards ended a four-game losing streak. St. Louis improved to 10-and-13 on the season, and Ryan Helsley got credit with the win. Steven Matz starts for the Cardinals against the Diamondbacks tonight.

Billikens Poach Another Indiana State Player

The Saint Louis Billikens are bleeding the Indiana State basketball program dry. Former Sycamores guard Isaiah Swope announced that he is transferring to Saint Louis yesterday. Swope joins teammate Robbie Avila, who transferred to the Billikens over the weekend just a few weeks after former Indiana State head coach Josh Schertz became the head coach at Saint Louis. Swope averaged 15-point-nine points and two-point-one assists in 37 games last season.



Mizzou Football Adds 2025 DL

The Mizzou Tigers football team is strengthening the trenches for the 2025 season. Defensive lineman Joshua Lewis committed to the Tigers yesterday. The three-star recruit from the class of 2025 chose Mizzou over the likes of Houston, Tulane, and Georgia Tech. The Louisiana-native is the fourth player to commit to Missouri from the 2025 class.

Over the weekend in four games in the Lebanon/Camdenton Wood Bat Tournament, Gavin posted 3 hits and 4 rbi and hit his first home run of the season, helping Union take 2nd place. 

For the season, Gavin is hitting .295 with 14 rbi, 1 home run and 3 doubles. Onbase .449 slugging .393. 

Gavin is good behind the plate. He blocks balls in the dirt, has a good arm and works well with the pitching staff. 

Gavin threw out two runners in the win against Lebanon Friday.

The Cardinals refused to hit with runners on base during a 2-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium. The Cards went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Sonny Gray was charged with his first loss despite ringing up 12 strikeouts and allowing just two runs in six-and-a-third innings. The 9-and-13 Cardinals send Lance Lynn to the mound against the Diamondbacks tonight.



Ohtani Breaks Record For Home Runs By Japanese-Born MLB Player

Shohei Ohtani's two-run blast in the third inning of the Los Angeles Dodgers' 10-0 win over the New York Mets on Sunday was not a typical home run. The homer was the 176th of Ohtani's big league career, moving him past former Yankees star Hideki Matsui for most homers by a Japanese-born MLB player. Ohtani has hit the ground running in his first season with the Dodgers. In 24 games, the designated hitter is hitting .368 with five home runs, 13 RBI and five stolen bases.

Baseball
Lebanon/Camdenton Wood Bat Tournament-Union took 2nd place following a 5-4 10 inning loss to Valle Catholic in the championship game.  Valle came back from a 4-0 deficit to win it and remain undefeated at 24-0.  Union falls to 17-6.  

Washington split a double-header with Chaminade.  Game 1-Cal Rampthun tripled and drove in 2 runs leading the Red Devils to a 5-1 win.  Cooper Brown pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win.  Ethan Roewe had 2 hits for Washington.  
Game 2-Roewe pitched a complete game 2 hitter with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks and the Blue Jays bounced back with an 8-2 win.  Henry Vedder went 2 for 4 with 2 rbi.  Ben Loesing and Ryan Williams had 2 rbi each.  Washington is 4-16 and Chaminade 4-13.  

Russelville shutout Hermann 9-0.  The Bearcats fall to 8-15.  Russelville improves to 6-15.  

St. James 15 Cuba 5.  The Tigers move to 2-10.  The Wildcats fall to 1-15.

Baseball
Union 15 St. James 0 in 3 innings.  Klay Muser was the winning pitcher.  Union improves to 18-6 overall and 5-1 in conference.  St. James drops to 2-11 and 0-5.  

Jayden Fitzgerald pitched 6 innings leading St. Clair to a 5-4 win over Hermann.  Fitzgerald allowed 3 earned runs on 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and 4 walks.  He was also 3 for 3 at the plate. Tyler Thurman pitched the 7th for the save.  St. Clair is 4-11 and 2-4.  Trace Erfling was the loser.  Hermann falls to 8-16 and 0-4.

Sullivan 14 New Haven 1.  Kaden Smith pitched 3 innings with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk for the win.  Grant Halmick closed it out.  Sullivan improves to 12-5 and 4-1.  The Shamrocks fall to 2-10 and 1-3.  Ryan Steinbeck was 2 for 3 and Trevor Hinton 1 for 3 with 1 rbi.    

Pacific 17 Owensville 0.  Jake Collier pitched a 1 hitter with 5 strikeouts in 3 innings.  Pacific hit 7 home runs.  The Indians banged out 14 hits with 7 home runs, 2 by Colton Kossuth, 2 by Ethan Broser and 1 each from Connor Mooney, Xavian Cox and Jake Collier.  Pacific improves to 13-3 and 5-0.  Owensville falls to 7-10 and 3-2.  

Brendan Graves pitched a complete game with 7 strikeouts and no walks leading Lutheran South to a 6-0 win over Washington.  Connor Terbrock was 2 for 2 with 2 runs and 1 rbi.  Kaner Young pitched a complete game for the Blue Jays.  Ryan Williams was 2 for 4.  The Lancers are 9-12.  The Blue Jays 4-17. 


Girls Soccer
Blue-Cat Cup Tournament-First Round
Oakville 8 Borgia 0.  Oakville is 7-6.  Borgia 7-8.  

Washington beat Rock Bridge in the 8th round of PK.  

Sophia Helling and Mya Minor scored 2 goals each leading Union past Columbia, Illinois 5-4.  Ava Sykes added a goal and Helling posted 2 assists for the Wildcats, now 9-1.  Maddie Mauch had a hat-trick for Columbia, 12-3-1.  

Pacific improved to 11-1-1 with a 3-2 win over Parkway West.  Rhyan Murphy, Lexi Clark and Abbey Hall scored for the Indians.  Lily Brockmeier and Claire Francis scored for the Longhorns, 3-9.   


Boys Volleyball
Bayless beat Borgia in 5.  The Knights drop to 7-10.  Bayless is 10-9-2.

Springfield Holds Off Amarillo
4/22/2024
The Springfield Cardinals left the tying run at third base during a 3-2 win over the Amarillo Sod Poodles at Hodgetown. The Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the third and held on the rest of the way. Jeremy Rivas had a double and two RBI in the victory. Max Rajcic earned his second win by holding Amarillo to one run on two hits in six innings, while Matt Svanson picked up his second save. The 12-and-3 Cards host Arkansas tomorrow night.



City Draws Sporting KC
4/22/2024
St. Louis City SC picked up a point with a 3-3 draw against Sporting KC at Children's Mercy Park on Saturday. Joao Klauss and Celio Pompeu both scored in the first half to give City a lead, but SKC went up by one in the 77th minute. However, Tomas Totland forced the draw by scoring in the second minute of stoppage time. St. Louis is tied for seventh place in the Western Conference with two wins, six draws, and one loss for 12 points. The club visits Houston on May 4th.
