Springfield Rallies Past Wichita In Eighth
4/15/2024
The Springfield Cardinals are still undefeated following an 8-7 win over the Wichita Wind Surge at Hammons Field. The Cardinals trailed by four entering the bottom of the eighth before plating five runs. Matt Lloyd gave Springfield the lead with a three-run homer to cap the inning. Ryan Shreve picked up the win in relief, and Leonardo Taveras earned his first save of the season. The 9-and-0 Cardinals visit Amarillo tomorrow.



City Blanks Austin
4/15/2024
St. Louis City SC picked up three points with a 1-nil win over Austin FC at CityPark yesterday. Joao Klauss scored the only goal of the match in the 57th minute, and City held Austin without a shot-on-target. St. Louis is tied for sixth place in the Western Conference with two wins, five draws, and one loss for 11 points. City takes on Sporting KC this Saturday.



Blues Crush Kraken Despite Missing Out On Playoffs

The Blues have been eliminated from playoff contention despite blowing out the Kraken 4-1 in St. Louis. Kasperi Kapanen netted a first-period goal, while Jordan Kyrou and Braden Schenn lit the lamp in the third. Nathan Walker added an empty-netter to ice the game. St. Louis earned its 91st point of the season, but the Golden Knights secured the last Wild Card spot in the West with 94 points as the Blues only have one more game left to play. St. Louis wraps up its season against Dallas on Wednesday.



Cardinals Get Blanked By Diamondbacks

The Cardinals wrapped up a rough series in the desert with a 5-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. St. Louis managed just four hits in the losing effort, and the Cardinals gave up all five of Arizona's runs in the bottom of the fifth. Miles Mikolas was charged with his second loss after surrendering five runs on four hits and two walks in four-and-two-thirds innings. The 7-and-9 Cardinals send Sonny Gray to the mound against the Oakland A's tonight.



Scottie Scheffler Wins The Masters Tournament
4/15/2024
Scottie Scheffler has earned another green jacket after finishing atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters Tournament in Augusta. Scheffler shot a four under 68 in the final round to finish the tournament with a four-stroke victory at 11 under par. This is the second major championship for Scheffler after he also won the Masters in 2022. Ludvig Aberg finished in second at seven under par. Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa and Collin Morikawa finished tied for third at four under. Tiger Woods finished 60th at 16 over par for the worst 72-hole performance of his career.

Baseball
Borgia won both games of a doubleheader with Parkway South 6-4 and 6-0.  Game 1-Drew Eckhoff 2 hits, 2 runs and 1 rbi.  Jack Nobe 3 rbi. Tyler Kromer 2 hits 1 run and 1 rbi.    Charlie Gildehaus pitched 5 innings for the win and Reagan Kandlbinder posted the save.  Game 2-Nobe struck out 8 over 6 innings for the win.  He also homered with 2 runs and 2 rbi.  Just Mort and Noah Hendrickson with 2 hits each.  Borgia improves to 10-5.

Union went 1 and 2 in the Potosi Tournament.  The Wildcats lost to Hillsboro 4-0, beat Potosi 8-3 and lost to West County 6-1.  Union is 13-4.  

Sullivan went 1 and 2 in the Farmington Wood Bat Tournament.  The Eagles lost to Fox 10-6, beat North County 8-3 and lost to Farmington 9-1.  The Eagles are 9-5.

Hermann went 1 and 2 in the Linn Tournament.  Bearcats lost to Belle 14-6, lost to Dixon 7-6 and beat Linn 17-7.  The Bearcats are 8-11.  

Owensville finished 1 and 2 in the Walkoff Wood Bat Tournament.  The Dutchmen lost to 9-8 in 8 innings, beat East Buchanon 18-2 and lost to Mid-Buchanon 11-3.  Owensville is 6-8.  


Girls Soccer-Friday-Hillsboro Tournament-3rd Place Game-Lutheran South 2 St. Clair 1.  The Bulldogs drop to 6-6-1.

Lexi Lewis stole 5 bases on the day and set a new single season record with 47 stolen bases.  She has broken the 2015 record in 25 fewer games.





AJ McCarron, Battlehawks win another nail-biter
4/15/2024
St. Louis Battlehawks 31 San Antonio Brahmas 24. 

AJ McCarron finished 19-of-27 for 152 yards and a touchdown. Hakeem Butler caught six passes for a game-high 87 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Saylors finished with 62 yards on seven carries. 

Next game is Saturday against the Memphis Showboats at 11:30.

In his first game back, Lars Nootbaar showed why he is considered a key piece for the Cardinals -- both with his infectious, feel-good energy and his big bat in the middle of the lineup. Nootbaar hit a towering 438-foot home run in his first game back. He also celebrated close friend Nolan Arenado’s smashing of his first home run of the season. Their work played a big role in the Cardinals building an early six-run lead, and St. Louis rallied late for a 9-6 defeat of the D-backs at Chase Field on Friday.



Blues Hockey

Jaccob Slavin scored the go-ahead goal in the third period for the Carolina Hurricanes, who rallied for a 5-2 win against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Friday. Slavin scored on a backdoor play off a high-slot pass from Sebastian Aho at 7:53 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie. Jake Guentzel scored two empty-net goals at 17:20 and 19:10 for the 5-2 final. Slavin and Seth Jarvis each had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes (51-22-7), who won their fourth in a row to move within one point of the New York Rangers for first in the Metropolitan Division with two games remaining for each. Frederik Andersen made 29 saves. Jordan Kyrou and Zack Bolduc scored for the Blues (42-33-5), who were eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention when the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Minnesota Wild 7-2 on Friday. Jordan Binnington made 37 saves, and Robert Thomas had two assists.

Belle 14 Hermann 6.  Lampkin, Moore and Tyree 2 hits each.  

Sullivan will play in the Farmington Wood Bat Tournament Friday and Saturday.  Fox 10 Sullivan 6.  Ethan Mazzola homered with 4 rbi for Fox.  Corbin Waller 3 rbi.  Mazzola pitched 5 innings for the win.

Blues Host Hurricanes

The St. Louis Blues continue their battle for a playoff spot when they host the Carolina Hurricanes at Enterprise Center tonight. The Blues are coming off a 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. St. Louis is just three points behind Vegas for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with three games left to play. Tonight's game starts at 7:00PM.



Kentucky Finalizing Contract With BYU's Pope
4/12/2024
Kentucky men's basketball is finalizing a five-year deal with BYU head coach Mark Pope to become the Wildcats' next head coach, per ESPN. Pope follows John Calipari, who left for Arkansas after 15 seasons. In five seasons at BYU, Pope went 110-and-52, leading the Cougars to two NCAA Tournament berths. He played for Kentucky and was a member of the Wildcats' 1996 national title team.



Springfield Walks Off Against Wichita

The Springfield Cardinals are still undefeated following a 7-6 ten-inning win over the Wichita Wind Surge at Hammons Field. Chandler Redmond hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth to give Springfield the win. RJ Yeager and Nathan Church each went deep in the victory, and Andre Granillo earned his first win in relief. The 5-and-0 Cardinals have a double-header against the Wind Surge today.



City Welcomes Austin

St. Louis City SC will try to snap a five-match winless streak when they host Austin at CityPark on Sunday. City are coming off a scoreless draw against FC Dallas at home last Saturday. St. Louis is tied for tenth place in the Western Conference with one win, five draws, and one loss for eight points this season. Sunday's match kicks off at 3:45PM.



Cardinals Visit Diamondbacks
4/12/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals begin a weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field tonight. The Cardinals were off yesterday after losing their series finale to the Phillies 4-3 on Wednesday. St. Louis is in fifth place in the NL Central at 6-and-7. Steven Matz is slated to start for the Cards this evening. First pitch is at 8:40PM.

Borgia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Sullivan responded with 7 runs in the second, then added 3 in the 6th for a 10-4 Eagle victory.  Drake Gawer posted 11 strikeouts and 4 walks over 5 innings for the win and Nate McReynolds closed it out for the save.  Sullivan banged out 11 hits.  Landon Doza was 3 for 3 with 2 runs, 1 rbi and 3 stolen bases.  Chase Blue homered in the 6th.  Borgia catcher Noah Hendrickson was 2 for 3 with a 3 run homer and Tyler Kromer was 2 for 4.  Caden Carroll suffered the loss.  Sullivan improves to 8-3 and Borgia drops to 8-5. 

Union beat New Haven 15-0 in 4 innings.  Logan Hansel struck out 9 over 3 innings for the win.  Union banged out 11 hits.  Ardell Young had 1 hit, 2 runs and 4 rbi.  Aaron Sterner 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 rbi.  Karson Eads 2 rbi, Nick D'Onofrio 2 hits and 2 runs and Connor Curnutte 2 runs and 2 rbi.  Union is 12-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.  New Haven is 2-8 and 1-2.  

Cooper Burrington pitched a complete game with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk leading Pacific to an 11-1 win at Hermann.  Trey Kulick went 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 rbi.  Colton Kossuth 2 for 4 with 2 rbi.  Grant Kossuth 2 hits and 2 runs.  Luke Gerling 2 hits and 3 runs and Xavian Cox 2 hits and 2 runs.  The Indians improve to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in conference.  Eric Williams pitched 3 innings for Hermann and suffered the loss.  The Bearcats were held to 6 hits.  Trace Erfling was 2 for 2.  Hermann drops to 7-9 and 0-3.  

Owensville ran wild in an 11-1 win over St. Clair.  Chase Weirich allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings for the win.  He was also 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 rbi.  Landon Ely was 3 for 5 with 3 rbi.  Landon Kramme 3 for 4 with 2 rbi and Jansen Loeb 3 for 4 wth 3 stolen bases.  Owensville had 15 stolen bases.  

Vienna 11 St. James 4.  The Tigers drop to 3-7.  Vienna moves to 11-4.


Girls Soccer
Avery Lanemann, Madison Moore and Sammy Williams all found the back of the net leading Washington to a 3-1 win over Holt.  Natalie Vogel and Susie Heggemann had assists.  The Blue Jays improve to 7-5 overall and 2-4 in the GAC Central.  The Indians drop to 3-6 and 2-4.  Elizabeth Shaw scored for Holt.  

Jada Adams logged a hat-trick leading Sullivan to a 5-1 win at St. James.  Tessa Newman and Cambria Pohlman added 1 goal each and Molly Lohden posted 3 assists for the Eagles, now 9-3-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.  St. James drops to 1-6.  

Orchard Farm 8 Warrenton 0.  Hannah Ramsey with a hat-trick for the Eagles, now 6-2.  Warrenton drops to 1-9-1.

Cardinals Fall To Phillies
4/11/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals dropped their series with the Philadelphia Phillies after a 4-3 loss in the rubber match at Busch Stadium yesterday. The game was tied at two in the sixth before Andre Pallante surrendered a pair of RBI singles. Pallante was charged with his first loss in relief. Ivan Herrera and Brendan Donovan both went yard in the losing effort. The 6-and-7 Cardinals return to action tomorrow at Arizona.



Blues Keep Playoff Hopes Alive With Win Over Blackhawks

The Blues kept their playoff hopes alive following a 5-2 win over the Blackhawks in St. Louis. Jordan Kyrou netted a pair of goals, while Torey Krug and Zack Bolduc scored as part of a four-goal first period. Robert Thomas lit the lamp in the third as St. Louis now has 89 points trails Vegas by three points for last Wild Card spot in the West with three games left to play. The Blues host Carolina tomorrow night.



Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Faces 8 Charges In Crash
4/11/2024
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing eight charges in connection with a hit-and-run crash last month. Rice is accused of one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury. An arrest warrant has been issued for Rice for his involvement in the multi-vehicle crash where Dallas Police say he was speeding and lost control, eventually hitting a center median wall that led to a chain reaction collision.



2024 Masters Preview

A tradition unlike any other returns to Augusta National this week. Jon Rahm will be looking to add another green jacket to his list of accolades when he defends his title at the 2024 Masters Tournament. Rahm won last year's tournament after finishing atop the leaderboard at 12 under par. He will be alongside Matt Fitzpatrick and Nick Dunlap for the first two rounds. Tiger Woods is making his return. Woods is hoping to break his tie with Sam Snead for most Tour championships.

Washington walked off Fort Zumwalt North 4-3.  Mason Theis pitched 2 2/3 innings for the win.  At the plate, Hayden Burns was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Andrew Elbert was 1 for 2 with a double and 2 rbi.  Burns tripled in the 7th and Ethan Roewe drove him in for the win.  Washington improves to 3-12 overall and 2-2 in the GAC Central.  The Panthers drop to 2-10 and 0-5.  

Warrenton had no problem with St. Charles 21-1 in 3 innings.  Warrenton improves to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the GAC North.  St. Charles is 4-9 and 1-4.  


Girls Soccer
Sophia Helling scored 4 goals leading Union to a 7-0 win at Rolla.  Jewelle Anderson, Ava Sykes and Mia Smith added 1 goal each and Mya Minor finished with 3 assists.  Ali Thing made 5 saves and posted the shutout in net.  Union improves to 6-1.  Rolla drops to 5-4.

Cardinals Blank Phillies To Even Series

The Cardinals evened their series against the Phillies following a 3-0 win from St. Louis. Nolan Gorman slugged a solo homer, while Brendon Donovan and Victor Scott-the-second also drove in runs. Sonny Gray earned the win in his Cardinals debut after striking out five batters over five scoreless innings. St. Louis improved to 6-and-6 on the season. Lance Lynn starts for St. Louis against Philadelphia today.

Noah Mendlinger and Bryan Torres each had three hits in the victory, and Max Rajcic gave up just one earned run and one unearned run on two hits in five innings to earn his first win. The 4-and-0 Cardinals send Alex Cornwell to the mound against Wichita tonight.



Mizzou Football Opener Moves Up

The Mizzou Tigers will begin their 2024 football season earlier than anticipated. The program announced that its season opener against Murray State will take place on Thursday, August 29th. The game was originally scheduled for August 31st. It will now air on the SEC Network at 7:00PM.

Washington came from behind to post a 10-8 win at Fort Zumwalt North.  Kaner Young pitched 4 1/3 innings with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in a no-decision.  Ethan Roewe pitched the last 2 2/3 innings for the win.  Roewe, Andrew Elbert, Henry Vedder and Ryan Williams each finished with 2 rbi.  Ryan Kassebaum scored 3 runs.  The Blue Jays improve to 2-12 and 1-2 in the GAC Central.  The Panthers are 2-9 and 0-4.  

Andrew Henke went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 doubles and 6 rbi leading St. Dominic to a 9-6 win over Borgia.  Charlie Kilcullin struck out 10 with 2 walks over 5 1/3 innings for the win.  Kaleb Hoss pitched 3 innings for Borgia and suffered the loss.  Reagan Kandlbinder and Jack Nobe both homered for Borgia.  Kandlbinder finished with 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 rbi.  The Knights drop to 8-4 and the Crusaders move to 9-4.  

Calvary Lutheran 11 New Haven 2.  The Shamrocks drop to 2-7.   Weston Hecktor was 3 for 3 and Andy Noelke 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Calvary Lutheran improves to 4-3.  

Hermann posted a 10-3 win at Linn.  Trent Lampkin pitched 5 2/3 innings with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk for the win.  Lane Kohlbusch closed it out.  Jordan Heying had 3 hits, 2 triples and 2 rbi.  Charlie Tyree added 2 rbi. Trace Erfling 3 hits and 3 runs.  The Bearcats improve to 7-8.  Linn drops to 5-7.  

Pacific logged a conference win, 6-3 over St. James despite being out hit 6-5.   Xavian Cox was the winner and Ethan Broser closed it out for the save.  Trey Kulick was 2 for 3 with a run.  Ethan Holzmark scored 2 runs.  The Indians improve to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in conference.  St. James is 1-6 and 0-3.  

Helias 14 Owensville 4.  The Crusaders are 5-4.  Owensville drops to 4-6.  

Tyler Teemes pitched a complete game leading St. Clair to a 7-3 win at Cuba.  Teemes allowed 7 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks.  Clayton Ingram was 2 for 4 with 3 runs, 1 rbi and Carter Short was 2 for 5 with 2 rbi.  The Bulldogs move to 3-6.  Cuba is 1-8.  

Warrenton got back on the rails with a 10-1 over St. Charles.  The Warriors move to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the GAC North.  


Girls Soccer
Hillsboro Tournament-Lyla Stegmann and Kylee Bearden scored 2 goals each leading Fox past St. Clair 7-1.  Kadence Gardner scored the lone goal for St. Clair with Greta Bettinelli getting the assist.  The Bulldogs are 6-5-1.  Fox is 5-2.

Jewelle Anderson posted a hat-trick leading Union to an 8-0 win at St. James.  The Tigers drop to 1-5.  Union is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in conference.

Pacific 3 Rolla 1.  The Indians improve to 9-1-1.  The Bulldogs drop to 5-3.  

Cambria Pohlman scored twice leading Sullivan to an 8-0 win over Owensville.  The Eagles are 8-3-2.  Owensville slips to 4-9.  

Fort Zumwalt North 4 Washington 1.  Fiona Shelp notched 2 goals for the Panthers, now  6-2 overall and 4-2 in the GAC Central.  Madison Moore scored for the Blue Jays, now 6-5 and 1-4.  Natalie Vogel had the assist.  

Borgia has won three straight following a 4-0 victory at Bishop DuBourg.  Haylee Stieffermann scored 2 goals with Madi Lieberoff and Macy Strubberg adding 1 each.  Lieberoff also had 2 assists.  Kate Snider posted the shutout in net.  Borgia is 4-6.  DuBourg is 0-8.  


Boys Volleyball-St. Dominic beat Borgia in 3.  The Knights drop to 5-7  St. Dominic moves to 7-0.

Local College Baseball

The ECC Baseball Falcons (26-13) were able to put the cherry on top of the sundae or knock the red warning light off the top of the Arch, which ever you prefer, with a double header sweep of St. Louis Community College Archers by scores of 9-6 and 7-5.

The Falcons were on fire in the first game paced by a red hot Jackson Kirn going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Matis Crouwel opened the scoring as he doubled in the first inning and was driven home. Crouwel collected two hits and 3 RBIs in the game.

ECC scored 6 runs in the first two innings leading 6-0. The Archers answered back in the top of the third scoring 3 runs and reeling the Falcons closer to eventually tie the game at 6-6. Jose Alfonso and Corey Chostner had doubles in the first game as well.

ECC slammed the door shut in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring 3 runs to elevate the score to 9-6.

Drew Davis went four innings allowing three runs and striking out one batter. Brock Hendrix, Anthony Broeker, and Starling Beverding came in relief to close the door on the Archers.

The second game had ECC leading 5-0 after five innings. A big sixth inning allowed St. Louis CC back into the game as they tied the score 5-5. Then the Falcons went to work scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the game 7-5 and seal the deal. Jackson Kirn and Adam Hanan both had doubles in the game and an RBI each.

On the mound, Joey Reichmuth went the distance for the Falcons to record the complete game win striking out two batters in the process of facing 30 batters.

Blues Prepare For Blackhawks

The St. Louis Blues are getting ready for their game against the Chicago Blackhawks at Enterprise Center tomorrow. The Blues are coming off a 6-5 shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. St. Louis sits just five points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with just four games left to play. Tomorrow's game starts at 7:00PM.



Cardinals Lose In Extras

The St. Louis Cardinals wasted a ninth-inning comeback during a 5-3, ten-inning loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals trailed by two in the ninth before Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn each drove in a run to tie the game. However, Ryan Helsley surrendered a pair of runs in the next half-inning and was charged with his first loss in relief. Ivan Herrera added a home run in the losing effort as the Cardinals dropped to 5-and-6. Sonny Gray starts for the Cards against Philly tonight.



UConn Wins Back To Back National Championships

UConn is celebrating a second straight men's basektball national championship after blowing out Purdue 75-60 in the title game from Glendale. The Huskies rode a six-point lead into the half and never looked back. UConn is the first program to repeat since Florida in 2007 and now has six NCAA Tournament championships.



NCAA Women's Basketball Title Game Breaks Record

Sunday's NCAA's women's basketball championship game is another record breaker. It became the most watched basketball game -- men's or women's, college or pro -- since 2019. The final that saw Dawn Staley's undefeated South Carolina defeat Iowa and superstar Caitlin Clark drew 18-point-seven-million viewers. It marked the third time in a week that a game featuring Clark and the Hawkeyes broke viewership records.



Sonny Gray To Make Season Debut Tuesday After Injury

Sonny Gray is set to make his season debut for the Cardinals in Tuesday's second game against the Phillies. The 34-year-old was supposed to take the mound on Opening Day but was sidelined due to a hamstring strain. Gray hasn't pitched since March 4th in Spring Training and will be limited to 65 pitches. Gray, who was runner-up for the A-L Cy Young Award in 2023, signed a three-year, 75-million-dollar deal with St. Louis in the offseason. Tuesday night's game begins at 7:45 p.m. with Zack Wheeler getting the start for the Phillies. The Cardinals lost 5-3 Monday night in ten innings with the Phils.

In a game against North County March 26th, Gardner dominated with 4 goals in a 9-1 win.  

She has helped guide St. Clair to a 5-4-1 record. 

Kadence and her teammates will compete in the Hillsboro Tournament this week. 



South Carolina Wins National Title

South Carolina used a dominating performance by center Kamilla Cardoso to win its third national championship in school history. The Gamecocks took down Iowa 87-75 Sunday to win it all, becoming the 10th team in Division One history to complete an undefeated season. It is the second title in three seasons for head coach Dawn Staley and her team. Iowa, despite 30 points from Division One all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark, came up short in the title game for the second year in a row.

Tolton beat Union 8-4 in 10 innings.  Union used 4 pitchers.  Ardell Young, Zack Voss, Avery Young and Tucker Lemons saw time on the mound.  The Wildcats drop to 11-2.  The Trailblazers improve to 10-2.

Gavin Schmidt was 4 for 5 with 4 rbi leading Sullivan to an 11-5 win over St. James.  Drake Gawer was 2 for 3 with a double and Dayton Skaggs 2 for 3 with a double and triple.  The Eagles improve to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.   St. James drops to 1-5 and 0-2.

Community R-6 15 New Haven 6.  The Shamrocks drop to 2-6.  Michael McFerrin has 2 rbi.  Ryan Steinbeck and Jacob Gerdes both scored 2 runs.  Community R-6 improves to 6-3.  


Girls Soccer
Hillsboro Tournament-St. Clair 4 Hillsboro 1.  Shea Daniels posted a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs, now 6-4-1.  Kadence Gardner, Josie Shelton and McKenna Conway added 1 goal each.  The Hawks drop to 5-2-1. 

Fatima 5 St. James 1.  The Comets move to 5-1.  The Tigers drop to 1-4.

Orchard Farm 5 Sullivan 0.  Orchard Farm moves to 4-2.  Sullivan drops to 7-3-2.

Pacific beat Affton 2-1 to improve to 8-1-1.

Cardinals Get Crushed By Marlins
4/8/2024
Kyle Gibson struggled during his second start with the Cardinals in a 10-3 loss to the Miami Marlins at Busch Stadium. Gibson gave up six runs in the first inning and was charged with the loss after surrendering seven runs in six innings. Nolan Gorman went deep twice in the losing effort. The 5-and-5 Cardinals send Miles Mikolas to the mound against the Phillies tonight.



Blues Survive Ducks

The St. Louis Blues avoided disaster with a 6-5 shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center. St. Louis had a two-goal lead in the middle of the third period before Frank Vatrano and Leo Carlsson scored for Anaheim to extend the game. After a scoreless overtime, Jordan Kyrou knocked in the only goal of the shootout. Zack Bolduc, Matthew Kessel, Robert Thomas, Pavel Buchnevich, and Brayden Schenn all lit the lamp for St. Louis. The Blues are just five points out of the last playoff spot in the Western Conference with 87 points and a 41-32-and-5 record. St. Louis hosts Chicago on Wednesday.

St. Louis Battlehawks 27 Arlington Renegades 24. AJ McCarron was 19 of 29 for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mataeo Durant carried the ball 14 times for 104 yards and a touchdown. Marcell Ateman 114 yards receiving with 2 scores.  St. Louis is 1-1.  The Battlehawks will play at San Antonio on Sunday, April 14th at 2:00. 



NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship Game Preview

Two of college basketball's most prestigious programs will take the court to decide a new national champion on Monday. Donovan Clingan and the reigning champion UConn Huskies will square off against Zach Edey and the Purdue Boilermakers in the NCAA Men's Basketball national championship game in Glendale, Arizona. UConn is aiming to become only the eighth program in NCAA history to win back-to-back championships. Purdue is playing in the title game for the first time since 1969.



Springfield Takes Down Arkansas

The Springfield Cardinals remain undefeated after an 8-1 win over the Arkansas Travelers at Dickey-Stephens Park. Aaron McKeithan and RJ Yeager both had a home run and three RBI in the victory. Trent Baker earned the win with five scoreless innings out of the pen. The 3-and-0 Cardinals host Wichita tomorrow night.



Billikens Hire Schertz

The Saint Louis Billikens officially have their new head coach. The men's basketball program announced Saturday that Josh Schertz has been hired to replace Travis Ford. Schertz coached at Indiana State during the last three years, taking the Sycamores to the NIT Championship game this year. He will be introduced at Chaifetz Arena at 10AM today.



City Draws With FC Dallas

St. Louis City SC picked up a point following a scoreless draw against FC Dallas at CityPark on Saturday. Roman Burki made four saves in the draw, while City managed seven shots on target. St. Louis is tied for tenth place in the Western Conference with a win, five draws, and one loss for eight points. St. Louis hosts Austin this Sunday.



Cardinals' Sonny Gray Will Start Tomorrow

The St. Louis Cardinals are getting their ace back. Manager Oliver Marmol told the media that Sonny Gray will make his season debut tomorrow against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 34-year-old was supposed to start on Opening Day, but he was sidelined due to a hamstring strain. Gray is coming off an 8-and-8 season with the Minnesota Twins where he finished second in the AL Cy Young voting. He had a 2.79 ERA in 32 starts. Gray signed a three-year, 75-million-dollar deal with St. Louis in the offseason. The three-time All-star has a 3.47 ERA in his career with the Athletics, Yankees, Reds, and Twins.



Men's Final Four Is Today In Arizona

The Men's NCAA Final Four will be held today in Arizona at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. Eleven-seed NC State will take on one-seed Purdue in the first game at 6:09pm Eastern. Then, four-seed Alabama will take on top-seeded UConn at 8:49pm Eastern. The winners will face each other in the National Championship on Monday.



Clark, Hawkeyes Beat UConn In Final Four

Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes are headed to the women's NCAA championship game after beating the UConn Huskies 71-69 in the Final Four. Clark scored 21 points and had nine rebounds and seven assists in Friday night's matchup. Sophomore Hannah Stuelke led Iowa with 23 points, and senior guard Kate Martin threw in eleven points. The Hawkeyes will now take on number-one South Carolina for the NCAA title Sunday at 3pm Eastern.

Union 5 Helias 4.  Logan Hansel and Klay Muser combined for the win.  Nick D'Onofrio was  2 for 4 with a double, 1 run and 2 rbi.  Aaron Sterner was 1 for 2 with 2 walks, 2 stolen bases and 3 runs.   Union improves to 11-1.  


Hollister-Rogersville Baseball Festival
Borgia bounced back for a 2-1 win over Marshfield.  Kaden Patke pitched 3 innings for the win.  Tyler Kromer was 3 for 5 and Jack Nobe 2 for 5 with 1 run and 1 rbi.  

Jack Nobe pitched a complete game with 9 strikeouts leading Borgia to a 10-0 win over Branson.  Nobe was also 2 for 3.  Noah Hendrickson went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double with 4 rbi.  Reagan Kandlbinder added 2 hits with 2 rbi.  Borgia improves to 8-3. 


Camdenton Laker Classic Wood Bat Tournament
Pacific split 2 games Saturday to finish 2-1 for the weekend.  The Indians beat Poplar Bluff 8-3 with Cooper Burrington pitching 5 innings.  8 strikeouts and 1 walk.  Ethan Broser 1 for 2 with 2 rbi.  Ethan Holzmark added 2 hits with 2 rbi.  

Pacific lost to Park Hill 6-1.  Jake Collier pitched 5 innings.  5 strikeouts and 3 walks.  The Indians were held to 1 run on 6 hits.  Pacific is now 8-3.  


Hermann 13 Cuba 6.  Cole Traub struck out 10 over 5 innings for the win.  Coleton Ruediger was 3 for 4 with a double, triple, 2 runs and 6 rbi.  Gavin Moore was 3 for 5 with 3 runs.  Jordan Heying scored 3 runs.  

Licking 21 Hermann 3.  Lane Kohlbusch posted 2 hits.  Hermann is 6-8.  


Festus won both games of a doubleheader with Washington 2-1 and 10-0.  Ryan Williams was 3 for 4 with 1 run in the first game.  Henry Vedder struck out 9 with 4 walks over 5 2/3 innings in the loss. 

Festus used 3 pitchers to no-hit Washington in game 2.  The Blue Jays are 1-12.  


Warrenton beat Wright City 17-5 and lost to Zumwalt East 22-7.  The Warrenton winning strike ends at 10.  The Warriors are now 10-2.

Friday-Borgia vs. Blue Valley Southwest-Olathe, Kansas walked off Borgia with a home run in the 7th inning for a 7-6 final.   Borgia scored 5 runs in the 7th to tie the game.  Jack Nobe was 2 for 4 with a double.  Jack Dunard 1 for 3 with a double and 2 rbi.  

Saturday-Borgia vs. Marshfield and Branson.

St. Clair 19 New Haven 1.  Easton Martin pitched 3 innings.  He allowed 4 hits and 1 run with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.  St. Clair banged out 14 hits with Tylor Thurman going 3 for 4 with 2 rbi.  Tyler Tomes 2 for 3 with 3 rbi and Adrian Arguilez 2 for 3 with 4 rbi.  St. Clair is 2-6.  New Haven drops to 2-5.  Trevor Hinton with 1 rbi. 

Ritenour scored 3 runs in the 7th inning to beat Hermann 4-3.  The Bearcats drop to 5-7.  Gavin Moore was 2 for 4 with 1 rbi.  Jordan Heying pitched 6 innings with 8 strikeouts and 4 walks in a no decision.  Trace Erfling pitched the 7th and suffered the loss.

Cadence Gardner logged a hat-trick leading St. Clair to a 7-0 win over Wright City.  Lucy Moore added 2 goals for the Bulldogs, now 5-4-1.  


Track and Field
Warrenton boys finished 2nd in the St. Dominic Invitational with 125 points.  St. Charles was 1st with 186 points.  
The Warrenton Girls finished 5th with 75 points.  St. Dominic was 1st with 141.5 points.  




Springfield Cardinals Begin Season

Mizzou Lands QB Zollers

The Mizzou Tigers might have their quarterback of the future. Four-star QB Matt Zollers committed to the football program yesterday. The Pennsylvania-native is Mizzou first commitment from the class of 2025. He's ranked as the sixth best quarterback in his class. Zollers chose Mizzou over Georgia, Florida, and Penn State, among others.

Blues Lost To Preds

The St. Louis Blues' playoff odds took a heavy hit after a 6-3 loss against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. The Blues got off 47 shots in the losing effort, but Juuse Saros saved 44 of them. Jake Neighbours and Jordan Kyrou each scored in the third period to get within one with just over two minutes left in regulation, but Filip Forsberg and Mark Jankowski each knocked in an empty-netter to put the game away. Brandon Saad scored in the losing effort for the Blues, who are in danger of falling out of playoff contention with 84 points and a 40-32-and-4 record. St. Louis visits San Jose tomorrow.



Cardinals Outslug Marlins In Home Opener

The Cardinals sent their fans home happy following an 8-5 win over the Marlins in the team's home opener from Busch Stadium. St. Louis trailed by two runs in the bottom of the seventh until Nolan Gorman and Alec Burleson doubled-in runs as part of a five-run frame. Giovanny Gallegos got the easy win after recording one out in relief, while Ryan Helsley tallied his second save of the season. The Cards are 4-and-4 on the season. They send Steven Matz to the mound against Miami tomorrow.



NCAA Women's Final Four Preview

The NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Final Four Begins Friday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The tournament's number one overall seed South Carolina plays three seed NC State. Paige Bueckers and three seed UConn square off against Caitlin Clark and one seed Iowa. The national championship is set for Sunday.



Seton Hall Wins 2024 NIT

The Seton Hall Pirates are the 2024 NIT champions. The Pirates squeaked past Indiana State 79-77 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Al-Amir Dawes led all scorers with 24 points for the Pirates. Kadary Richmond recorded a double-double with 21 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Seton Hall finished the season 25-and-12 and celebrates its first NIT championship since 1953. Isaiah Swope led the Sycamores in scoring with 19 points. Indiana State finished the season 32-and-7.



NCAA Men's Final Four Preview

Two teams are set to complete their journey to the national championship game this weekend. The NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Saturday. In the first matchup of the day, top-seeded Purdue will look to put an end to 11th-seeded NC State's Cinderella story. Zach Edey and the Boilermakers are making their first Final Four appearance since 1980. Next, reigning champion and top-seeded UConn will challenge fourth-seeded Alabama.

Cardinals Fall To Padres

The St. Louis Cardinals are settling for a series win after failing to sweep the San Diego Padres with a 3-2 loss a Petco Park yesterday. Zack Thompson gave up three runs on five hits and four walks in five innings and was charged with his second loss of the season. Nolan Arenado drove in a run in the losing effort. The 3-and-4 Cardinals send Lance Lynn to the mound when they host the Miami Marlins this afternoon.



Voters Reject Stadium Tax For Royals, Chiefs

The future of the Royals and Chiefs in Kansas City is in question. Residents of Jackson County, Missouri rejected a sales tax measure that would have helped fund a new downtown ballpark along with major renovations to Arrowhead Stadium. More than 58-percent of voters rejected the plan. Royals owner John Sherman said that he was deeply disappointed with the outcome of the vote. The current lease at Truman Sports Complex, the home to Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums for more than 50 years, lasts through January 31, 2031.



Cardinals Go into Home Opener with 3-4 Record

The Cardinals are back in St. Louis for their much-anticipated home opener today. Their season-opening road trip this past week to play the Dodgers and the Padres left the Cards with a 3-4 record. That includes a 3-2 loss on the third game with San Diego Wednesday. First pitch in the home opener against the Marlins is set for 3:15 this afternoon.

Kasey Griffin pitched a complete game shutout with 8 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 hit batter in a 3-0 win over Sullivan.  Union was held to 2 hits but took advantage of 2 errors, 4 walks, 2 balks and 2 hit batters.  The Wildcats improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.  Sullivan drops to 6-3 and 1-1.  Drake Gawer pitched 4 1/3 innings in the loss.  Nolan Ulrich had 2 hits.  Sullivan left 9 runners on base. 

Chase Weirich pitched 6 innings with 8 strikeouts leading Owensville to a 5-3 win at Hermann.  Coleton Skiles pitched the 7th for the save and logged 3 outs on 4 pitches.  Owensville moves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.  Trent Lampkin led Hermann 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 rbi.  Charlie Tyree posted 1 hit and 1 rbi.  The Bearcats drop to 5-6 and 1-1.  

Bennet Parker pitched a complete game with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk on 69 pitches leading Pacific to a 6-1 win at St. Clair.  Trey Kulick posted 2 rbi and Colton Kossuth reached base 4 times and Connor Mooney was 2 for 4 with 3 rbi.  The Indians improve to  6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference.  St  Clair drops to 1-6 and 0-1.  Jayden Fitzgerald suffered the loss.  Carter Short was 2 for 3 with 1 rbi.  

New Haven 7 St. James 4.  Andy Noelke was 4 for 4 with 1 rbi and 2 runs.  Trevor Hinton allowed 4 runs on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts over 6 innings.  Noelke closed it out.  Ryan Steinbeck 2 for 3 with an rbi.  It's the first conference win for New Haven since March 28th, 2015.  The Shamrocks are 2-4 and 1-0.   St. James is 1-4 and 0-1.   

Warrenton 3 Winfield 2.  Warrenton has won eight straight.  They are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the GAC North.  


Girls Soccer
Audrey Smith posted a hat-trick leading Fort Zumwalt South to a 4-3 win at Washington.  Madison Moore, Kloey O'Connell and Sammy Williams scored for the Blue Jays, now 6-4 and 1-3.  The Bulldogs are 7-2 and 4-0 in the GAC Central.  

Sullivan 5 Fatima 1.  Hayes, Kirk, Lohden, Newman and Pohlman all scored for the Eagles, now 7-2-2.  

Emma Thompson logged a hat-trick leading St. Clair to an 8-0 win over St. James.  McKenna Conway chipped in 2 goals for the Bulldogs, now 4-4-1.

Baseball 
Washington was held to 2 hits in a 9-0 loss at Fort Zumwalt East.  Noah Foster and Brendan Pyle combined for the shutout with Pyle getting the win for the Lions, now 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the GAC.  King, Schultz and Wheeler logged 2 rbi each.  The Lions banged out 10 hits.  Hunter Bakameyer and Andrew Elbert had hits for Washington.  Ethan Roewe pitched 2 innings and suffered the loss.  Washington drops to 1-10 and 0-2.  

Borgia at Tolton-Postponed


Girls Soccer
Madi Lieberoff posted 2 goals and 4 assists leading Borgia to a 7-0 win at Owensville.  Olivia Wunderlich, Abby Schutte, Addison Carroll, Dominique Murray and Haylee Stieffermann added 1 goal each.  Kate Snider and Nina Klak split time in goal with 2 saves each.  Borgia improves to 2-6.  Owensville drops to 2-8.  

Cambria Pohlman scored 2 goals leading Sullivan to a 3-1 win at Festus.  Tessa Newman also found the back of the net and Alyssa Johnson and Molly Lohden had assists.  The Eagles improve to 6-2-2.  Festus drops to 4-2-1.  

Windsor Tournament-Pacific remained unbeaten with a 6-1 win over St. Vincent.  The Indians improve to 6-0-1.  

Union 4 Notre Dame St. Louis 0.  Sophia Helling with the hat-trick Mya Minor with a tally late.  Union improves to 4-0.  


Boys Volleyball
Borgia beat Duchesne in 4.  Kaden Parmentier led Borgia with 9 kills, Harris Robinson with 7 assists, Lucas Wolfe with 4 blocks and Anthony Strohmeyer with 13 digs.  Robinson added 4 aces.   The Knights improve to 4-5.  





Snuggerud To Stay In College

One of the Blues top prospects is at least another year away from joining the team. Former first-round pick Jimmy Snuggerud announced yesterday that he will be playing another season with the Minnesota Gophers in 2024-25. The Blues used the 23rd overall pick of the 2022 NHL Draft to select the talented forward. Snuggerud had 21 goals and 13 assists in 39 games with Minnesota last season.



Blues Prepare For Predators

The St. Louis Blues are getting ready for their pivotal match-up against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena tomorrow night. The Blues are in the thick of the playoff race after beating Edmonton 3-2 in overtime on Monday. St. Louis is just three points behind Los Angeles for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 84 points and a 40-31-and-4 record. Tomorrow's game gets underway at 7:00PM.



Cardinals Take Down Padres

Willson Contreras came through for the Cardinals during their 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. The Cardinals trailed 2-1 entering the top of the sixth before Contreras launched a go-ahead two-run home run that put St. Louis up for good. Miles Mikolas earned his first win of the year after allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings, and Ryan Helsley picked up the save. The 3-and-3 Cardinals send Zack Thompson to the mound against the Padres this afternoon.



Astros' Ronel Blanco Throws Historic No-Hitter

The first no-hitter of 2024 belongs to Ronel Blanco after he led the Astros to a 10-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Minute Maid Park. Blanco went the distance while striking out seven batters without allowing a single hit on 105 total pitches. The 30-year-old right-hander accomplishes the feat in just his eighth career start and 25th overall major league appearance. It is the 17th no-hitter in Astros history and the earliest no-hitter by date in MLB history.
