Blues Celebrating 4th Straight Win
3/18/2024
The St. Louis Blues are celebrating their fourth straight win. They beat the Anaheim Ducks Sunday night in St. Louis 4 to 2. Robert Thomas broke a 1-1 tie in the second minute of the period, and he added another later in the third. Jake Neighbours and Kevin Hayes also scored. With the Sunday win, the Blues are keeping up with the Vegas Gold Knights in the Western Conference playoff race. They are four points behind the Knights and can possibly win the final playoff spot with one more win.



City Draws LA Galaxy

St. Louis City SC are still undefeated after a 3-3 draw with the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday. Tomas Ostrak and Joakim Nilsson both scored in the first 60 minutes to tie the match at two before Galaxy scored an own goal to put St. Louis on top. However, the Galaxy scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to steal a point. City are tied for fourth place in the Western Conference with a win and three draws for six points. St. Louis hosts the DC United this Saturday.



Cardinals Extend Marmol
3/18/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals are keeping their skipper around. The team signed manager Oliver Marmol to a two-year extension over the weekend. Marmol is entering his third season leading St. Louis. He led the team to a NL Central crown in 2022, but the team had a disappointing fifth-place finish last year. The extension keeps Marmol in the dugout through the 2026 season. In other club news, the Cardinals beat Houston 10-6 in Spring Training yesterday.



NCAA Men's Bracket Revealed
3/18/2024
The NCAA men's basketball tournament field has been revealed. The defending champion UConn Huskies lead the East region as the Number-1 overall seed in the tourney, while Duquesne is going dancing for the first time in 47 years as the 11th-seed. Houston locked-up the top seed in the South, while Marquette, Kentucky, Duke and Wisconsin round out the top-five in arguably the toughest region in the tournament. Elsewhere, Purdue secured the top spot in the Midwest region, while North Carolina earned the Number-1 seed in the West. March Madness gets underway with the First Four starting tomorrow.

KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week
3/18/2024
The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Nick D'Onofrio-Senior-Union Baseball.

D'Onofrio is off to a good start to the season. 

He took the mound in the opening game of the Four Rivers Conference Tournament against Owensville and pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts. 

In the semifinal against St. Clair, D'Onofrio went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and a triple, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Edman To Miss Opening Day
3/15/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals won't have their starting center fielder in the line up on Opening Day this month. The team announced that Tommy Edman is ruled out for the contest and will begin the season on the ten-day injured list. Edman is slowly recovering from an October surgery on his right wrist. The 28-year-old hit .248 with 13 home runs, 47 RBI, and 27 stolen bases last season. In other team news, the Cardinals played to a scoreless tie with the Mets in Spring Training yesterday.



City Visits LA Galaxy
3/15/2024
St. Louis City SC will try to stay undefeated when they visit the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park tomorrow. St. Louis drew with Austin 2-2 last Saturday. City are tied for third place in the Western Conference with a win and two draws for five points. Tomorrow's match kicks off at 9:30PM.



Blues Host Wild
3/15/2024
The St. Louis Blues go for their third win in a row when they host the Minnesota Wild at Enterprise Center tomorrow. The Blues are coming off a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. St. Louis has 71 points with a 34-29-and-3 record. Tomorrow's game gets underway at 7:00PM.



Girls High School Basketball-Thursday, March 14th

CLASS 4 MSHSAA SHOW-ME SHOWDOWN AT MIZZOU ARENA. 

3rd Place Game-Elizabeth Oliver posted 21 points and 7 rebounds leading Chillicothe to a 50-39 win over Owensville.  Jolie Bonderer 13 points, 5 rebounds and was 5 for 6 at the free throw line.  The Hornets end the season 28-2.  Owensville was led by Ali Daniels and Camryn Caldwell.  Both connected on 3 deep.  Daniels finished with 17 points and Caldwell 12.  Owensville ends the season 22-9

Borgia kicked off the season with a 10-0 win over Belle in 6 innings.  The game was scoreless until the 5th when Borgia scored 3 runs.  The Knights ended it early with 7 runs in the 6th.  Kaden Patke had 1 hit with 2 rbi and 2 runs scored. Tyler Kromer and Drew Eckhoff added 2 runs each.  Reagan Kandlebinder pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief for the win.  Starter Jack Nobe pitched 4 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts and 3 walks in a no decision.  He was also 1 for 3 with 2 rbi.

Pacific 15 New Haven 0.  Trey Kulick was 1 for 3 with 3 rbi.  Colton Kossuth was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 rbi.  Drew Beffa struck out 4 with 1 walk over 3 innings for the win.

Nick D'Onofrio pitched a 1 hitter with 10 strikeouts leading Union to a 10-0 win over Owensville.

SLU Fires Men's Basketball Coach Travis Ford After 8 Seasons
3/14/2024
St. Louis University officials confirm they've fired their men's head basketball coach. The school let Travis Ford go on Wednesday after he'd led the Billikens for eight seasons. SLU Athletic Director Chris May said in a statement that the decision wasn't made lightly. Ford leaves as the third-winningest coach in program history, though teams in recent years didn't meet expectations. University records reportedly show Ford also was SLU's highest-paid employee, making at least two-million-dollars annually for the past seven years.



Cardinals Tie With Twins
3/14/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals drew with the Minnesota Twins 1-1 in a Spring Training contest at Lee Health Sports Complex. Zach Thompson struck out five over four hitless innings, while Dylan Carlson hit a solo home run to provide St. Louis with its only run. Lance Lynn starts for the Cardinals against the Mets today.



Billikens Fall To Duquesne
3/14/2024
The Saint Louis Billikens have been eliminated from the Atlantic 10 tournament following an 83-73 loss to Duquesne at Barclays Center. The Billikens trailed by four at halftime and never got within a single possession the rest of the way. Gibson Jimerson had 22 points in the losing effort. The Billikens finished the season with a 13-and-20 record.



Mizzou Collapses Down The Stretch
3/14/2024
The Mizzou Tigers season is over after a brutal 64-59 loss to Georgia in the SEC Tournament at Bridgestone Arena. Missouri led by seven with three-and-a-half minutes left in regulation, but Georgia went on a 12-0 run to end the game. Nick Honor scored 14 points in the losing effort. Mizzou finished the season without an SEC win in either the regular season or postseason.



Blues Edge Kings For Second Straight Win
3/14/2024
The Blues have won back-to-back games following a 3-1 victory over the Kings in St. Louis. Alexey Toropchenko lit the lamp in the first period, while Jake Neighbours doubled the lead early in the second. Brandon Saad scored his 20th goal of the season in the final period to put the game on ice. Jordan Binnington made 40-of-41 saves as St. Louis is fifth in the Central Division with 71 points and a 34-29-and-3 record. The Blues host Minnesota on Saturday.



Three More Punch Tickets To NCAA Tournament
3/14/2024
Three more teams punched their tickets to the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday. McNeese knocked off Nicholls 92-76 to win the Southland Tournament and earn its first trip to the Big Dance since 2002. Colgate cruised past Lehigh 74-55 to claim its fourth straight Patriot League title. Montana State also claimed an automatic berth to the tourney with an 85-70 win over Montana in the Big Sky Championship.

New League Year In The NFL Begins Wednesday

Today marks the new league year in the NFL. The day officially begins at 4PM Eastern and allows teams to formally sign players and accept trades. Notable signings include Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons for 100-million guaranteed dollars, defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to the Las Vegas Raiders for nearly 85-million guaranteed and former New York Giants star Saquon Barkley heading to the Philadelphia Eagles on a 26-million-dollar guaranteed contract.

CLASS 4 MSHSAA SHOW-ME SHOWDOWN AT MIZZOU ARENA.

State Semifinal

Alyssa O'Connor logged a double-double with 10 points and 18 rebounds and also doled out 7 assists leading Park Hills Central to a 44-30 win over Owensville.  Khloe Dischbein and Taylor O'Connor added 10 points each for the Rebels, now 27-4.  Owensville was led by Ali Daniels with 11 points.  Owensville led 16-15 at the half, but were outscored 29-14 in the second half.  Owensville drops to 22-8.  

Lift for Life Academy 85 Chillicothe 77 in overtime.  



Cardinals Beat Red Sox
3/13/2024
The St. Louis Cardinals had 12 hits during an 8-6 Spring Training win against the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park. Alec Burleson and Ivan Herrera both went deep in the victory. Matthew Liberatore picked up the win after giving up five runs on seven hits in four innings. Zack Thompson takes the mound for St. Louis against the Twins today.



Mizzou Takes On Georgia
3/13/2024
The Mizzou Tigers hope their first conference win will come in the SEC Tournament when they take on Georgia at Bridgestone Arena tonight. Mizzou went 0-and-18 in conference play during the regular season and haven't won a game since December 30th. The Tigers lost to Georgia 75-68 when the teams marched up on January 6th. Tonight's game tips off at 8:30PM.



Billikens Rally Past Rhode Island
3/13/2024
The Saint Louis Billikens are moving on in the A-10 Tournament following a 74-71 win over Rhode Island at Barclays Center. The game was tied at 67 with a minute-and-a-half left in regulation before Terrence Hargrove hit a pair of free throws. Gibson Jimerson added a lay-up with 30 seconds left and Saint Louis kept Rhode Island at an arm's length the rest of the way. Jimerson had 26 points in the victory, and Hargrove finished with 18. The Billikens take on Duquesne tonight at 6:30.

The St. Louis Blues begin a four-game homestand when they host the Los Angeles Kings at Enterprise Center tonight. The Blues just snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Boston Bruins 5-1 on Monday. St. Louis is in sixth place in the Central Division with 69 points and a 33-29-and-3 record. Tonight's game starts at 6:30PM.



Missouri State Fires Basketball Coach Dana Ford
3/12/2024
Missouri State has fired men's head basketball coach Dana Ford. The school's decision comes just two days after the Bears' season came to a close with a huge loss to Indiana State in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. During his six years with the university, the 39-year-old compiled a record of 106-82, but never won a league title and never made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Athletic Director Kyle Moats says they'll start a nationwide search for Ford's replacement right away.



Cardinals Get Crushed By Nationals
3/12/2024
The Cardinals gave up nine combined runs over the seventh and eighth innings during an 11-4 Spring Training loss to the Washington Nationals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Paul Goldschmidt hit two doubles in the losing effort, while JoJo Romero was charged with the loss after allowing four runs in one inning out of the bullpen. Miles Mikolas had a strong start, allowing just one run and striking out five in four innings. Matthew Liberatore starts for St. Louis against Boston today.



Billikens Take On Rhode Island

The Saint Louis Billikens tip off the Atlantic 10 Tournament with a game against Rhode Island at Barclays Center this afternoon. The Billikens are coming off a 73-65 win in their regular season finale against St. Bonaventure last Saturday. Saint Louis also beat Rhode Island 94-91 when the two teams met on March 2nd. The Billikens were tied for 13th place in the A-10 with a 5-and-13 conference record and a 12-and-19 mark overall. Today's game tips off at 3:30PM.



Blues Cruise Past Bruins

The Blues snapped their three-game skid after closing out their road trip with a 5-1 win over the Bruins at TD Garden. Kasperi Kapanen opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season for the Blues. Robert Thomas put the Blues up by a pair after he found the back of the net on the power play. The Blues took a commanding lead after Kevin Hayes and Brandon Saad scored in the middle frame. Alexey Toropchenko added an empty netter to seal the victory for St. Louis, which is tied for fifth in the Central Division with 69 points at 33-29-and-3. The Blues host the Kings tomorrow night.

Arch Madness Final Nets Drake Top Win
3/11/2024
The previously number two seed has won the Missouri Valley Conference. Drake has now won back-to-back titles after Sunday's 84-80 defeat over top-seed Indiana State in St. Louis. Drake will now go on to play in the NCAA Tournament which begins March 19th. The championship game will be April 8th at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.



Blues Get Blanked By Rangers

The Blues are on a three-game losing streak following a 4-0 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. The Blues were outshot 39-26 in the losing effort, and they gave up two goals in both the first and third periods. Jordan Binnington finished with 35 saves. St. Louis is in sixth place in the Central Division with 67 points and a 32-29-and-3 record. The Blues visit the Bruins tonight.



KLPW Athlete of the Week

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is 5-5 Senior Guard-Emma Daniels-Owensville Dutchgirls.

Emma Daniels was 3 for 6 deep and 4 for 5 from the free throw line and finished with 13 points leading Owensville to a 38-35 win over Aurora in the Class 4 Quarterfinal Friday night.  

Season Stats:  15.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.62 assists, 3.31 steals per game.  Field goal percentage-38.  43 percent on two pointers, 33.2 outside the arc.  Emma is 73 for 96 from the line for 76 percent.  

Emma Daniels has helped Owensville to a 22-7 record, a three way tie for the Four Rivers Conference title and a trip to Show-Me Showdown in Columbia this week.

The Saint Louis Billikens wrapped up the 2023-24 regular season with a 73-65 win over St. Bonaventure at Reilly Center on Saturday. Terrence Hargrove Jr. led the way with 17 points, while Gibson Jimerson and Larry Hughes-the-second each finished with 15. Saint Louis finished tied for 13th place in the A-10 with a 5-and-13 conference record and a 12-and-19 mark overall. Saint Louis plays Rhode Island in the A-10 Tournament tomorrow.



Mizzou Loses To LSU
3/11/2024
The Mizzou Tigers finished the season without a conference win following an 84-80 loss to LSU at Maravich Assembly Center on Saturday. Mizzou trailed by as many as 20 points in the losing effort. Sean East-the-second poured in 26 points, while Noah Carter finished with 18. The Tigers are in last place in the SEC with an 0-and-18 conference record and an 8-and-23 mark overall. Mizzou plays Georgia in the SEC Tournament on Wednesday.

St. Louis City SC remain undefeated after a 2-2 draw with Austin at Q2 Stadium on Saturday. Eduard Lowen scored in the 49th minute, and Celio Pompeu knocked in the match-tying goal in the third minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half. City are tied for third place in the Western Conference with one win and two draws for five points. St. Louis visits the LA Galaxy this Saturday.



Cardinals Take Down Marlins

The Cardinals pounded out 15 hits during a 12-8 Spring Training win over the Miami Marlins at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Thomas Saggese went four-for-four with six RBI in the victory. Chris Roycroft earned the win in relief. Miles Mikolas starts against the Nationals today.



Mizzou Nabs QB Pyne
3/11/2024
The Mizzou Tigers are bringing in another quarterback. Former Notre Dame and ASU quarterback Drew Pyne announced that he is transferring to Mizzou yesterday. Pyne spent three seasons with the Irish before joining the Sun Devils last season. He passed for 273 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in two games last year.

In the Missouri Valley Tournament on Friday, Missouri State lost to Indiana State 75-59. In the Ohio Valley Tournament, Western Illinois was crushed by Little Rock 82-57 on Friday.



MVC Conference tournament Marks 30th Year at Enterprise Center

The Missouri Valley Conference tournament continues this weekend at the Enterprise Center. It's the 30th year that the postseason men's college basketball championship has been held in St. Louis. The State Farm MVC Tournament - known as "Arch Madness" -- began with a 12-team field Thursday. Competition continues today and Saturday with the final game set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Indiana State earned the MVC's number one seed in the regular season, followed by Drake, Bradley and Northern Iowa. Single-session tickets range from 55 to 65-dollars.



Cardinals Fall To Astros

Kyle Gibson got roughed up as the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Houston Astros 6-3 in a Spring Training game at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Gibson gave up four runs in the first inning and was charged with his second loss of exhibition play. Jordan Walker and Matt Carpenter both went deep in the losing effort. Lance Lynn takes the mound for St. Louis against the Nationals tonight.



College Basketball Round Up

In college basketball action yesterday, the Missouri Valley Tournament got underway with Missouri State crushing Murray State 60-35 and Southern Illinois getting edged by UIC 84-82 in double overtime. Missouri State goes against Indiana State today. In the Ohio Valley Tournament, SIU-Edwardsville lost to Morehead State 78-63, and Western Illinois snuck past Tennessee State 61-59. The Leathernecks play Little Rock tonight.

St. Louis City SC will try to stay undefeated when they visit Austin FC at Q2 Stadium tomorrow. City earned their first win of the year by beating New York City 2-nil last Saturday. St. Louis is tied for first place in the Western Conference with four points. Tomorrow's match kicks off at 7:30PM.



Blues Lose To Devils

The St. Louis Blues couldn't slow down Timo Meier during a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. The Blues surrendered a hat trick to the Devils forward, who also had an assist during the game. Brandon Saad scored in the middle of the second period to get St. Louis within a goal, but the Blues didn't find the back of the net again. St. Louis is in fifth place in the Central Division with 67 points and a 32-28-and-3 record. The Blues visit the Rangers tomorrow night. In other team news, the Blues signed Oskar Sundqvist to a two-year, three-million dollar extension yesterday.



Girls High School Basketball-Friday, March 8th

Class 4 Quarterfinal 
Owensville is going to Show-Me Show Down following a 38-35 win at Aurora.  Emma Daniels scored 13 points and reached 1,500 points for her career.  Ali Daniels added 9 points and 7 rebounds and Cameron Caldwell chipped in 9 points.  Owensville advances to state with a 22-7 record and will go up against Park Hills Central in the semifinal at 6:00 Wednesday evening at Mizzou Arena.  Third Place and Championship games are Thursday.    Aurora ends the season 25-5.  



Blues Visit Devils

The St. Louis Blues will try to get back in the win column when they visit the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center tonight. The Blues are coming off a 4-2 loss against the New York Islanders on Tuesday. The defeat ended a two-game winning streak for St. Louis. The Blues are in fifth place in the Central Division with 67 points and a 32-27-and-3 record, and they're six points back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Tonight's game starts at 6:00PM.



Mizzou Women's Basketball Team Bounced From SEC Tourney

The University of Missouri women's basketball team has already begun its offseason after it was bounced from the SEC tournament in Greenville, South Carolina, yesterday. The Mizzou women's Tigers entered the tournament as the bottom seed and fell to the 11th-ranked Florida Gators, 66-to-60. The club finished its season 11-and-19. The future of coach Robin Pingeton will dominate the Tigers' offseason. The program has gone five consecutive seasons without making an NCAA Tournament appearance.



College Basketball Round Up

Men's basketball conference tournaments got underway yesterday. In the Ohio Valley Tournament, SIU-Edwardsville beat Eastern Illinois 68-57. Tonight, Western Illinois hosts Tennessee State, and SIU-Edwardsville plays Morehead State. In the Missouri Valley tournament today, Southern Illinois takes on UIC, and Missouri State goes up against Murray State.



Cardinals Host Astros

The St. Louis Cardinals return to exhibition action when they host the Houston Astros in a Spring Training game at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium today. The Cardinals were off yesterday, and they most recently beat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Tuesday. Kyle Gibson is slated to make the start for St. Louis. First pitch is at 12:05PM.



High School Basketball-Tuesday, March 5th

Class 4 Sectional 
DJ Long drained 20 points leading the Mexico Bulldogs to a 62-56 win over Borgia. Kaden Benne hit 4 deep and added 18 points for Mexico, now 27-2. The Bulldogs came back from a 21-8 first quarter deficit and played lockdown defense in the second half. Mexico will travel to Vashon for the quarterfinal Saturday.  Adam Rickman filled the stat sheet for Borgia with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Brody Denbow added 13 points, Tate Marquart  hit 4 deep for 12 points and Kaden Patke chipped in 9.  Borgia ends the season 25-4.

Class 5 District 4 at St. Charles-Championship Game
Luke Bass scored 14 points and Cameron Brown added 13 leading Fort Zumwalt South past Warrenton 65-37.  The Bulldogs improve to 23-6.   Warrenton was led by Troy Anderson with 14 points.  The Warriors end the season 16-13.




Billikens Lose To Dayton

The Saint Louis Billikens couldn't overcome a slow start during a 100-83 loss to the Dayton Flyers at Chaifetz Arena. The Billikens trailed by 14 at halftime and gave up 51 points in the second half. Gibson Jimerson poured in 24 points in the losing effort. The Billikens are in 14th place in the A-10 with a 4-and-13 conference record and an 11-and-19 mark overall. Saint Louis is at St. Bonaventure on Saturday.



Mizzou Gets Crushed By Auburn

The Mizzou Tigers are on a 17-game losing streak following a 101-74 loss against number-14 Auburn at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers trailed by just five points at halftime before being outscored 57-35 in the second half. Sean East-the-second had 21 points but made just four of his 17 shots in the losing effort. Mizzou is in last place in the SEC with an 0-and-17 conference record and an 8-and-22 mark overall. The Tigers visit LSU on Saturday.



Cardinals SP Gray Could Miss Opening Day

The Cardinals might not have their ace pitcher ready for Opening Day. The team told reporters that Sonny Gray suffered a mild hamstring strain during his Spring Training start on Monday. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak added that the team is hopeful that the injury won't linger too long, but Gray could miss the beginning of the season. The Cardinals named the free-agent acquisition as their Opening Day starter earlier in the offseason. He was 8-and-8 with a 2.79 ERA in 32 starts with the Twins last season. In other team news, the Cardinals beat the Twins 5-4 in a Spring Training game yesterday.



Blues Blow Lead In Loss To Islanders

The New York Islanders overcame a two-goal deficit during a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues at UBS Arena.  Alexey Toropchenko and Jordan Kyrou both scored in the second period to put the Blues up 2-0, but Kyle Palmieri and Jean-Gabriel Pageau both lit the lamp to tie the game before the third.  Bo Horvat gave the Islanders the lead with a goal in the first minute of the final frame, and Mathew Barzal knocked in an empty netter late to seal the deal.  The Islanders are on a four-game winning streak.  St. Louis had a two-game winning streak snapped.  The Blues visit the Devils tomorrow.

Gray Exits Start With Injury

The Cardinals new ace had an injury scare during St. Louis' 1-0 Spring Training loss to the Washington Nationals at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches. Sonny Gray pitched one-and-two-thirds innings off scoreless baseball before injuring his right hamstring. Gray signed a three-year deal with St. Louis during the offseason, and the team isn't willing to discuss the injury until it figures out the severity. Miles Mikolas starts for St. Louis against Minnesota today.



Blues Edge Flyers

Jordan Binnington stopped 40 shots as the Blues earned a 2-1 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. Scott Laughton was the only Flyers player to sneak one past Binnington in regulation, giving Philly a 1-0 lead late in the first period. However, Kevin Hayes tied the game with a goal in the second. Jake Neighbours and Pavel Buchnevich both scored in the shootout as St. Louis outscored Philadelphia 2-1 in four rounds. St. Louis is in fifth place in the Central Division with 67 points and a 32-26-and-3 record. The Blues visit the Islanders tonight.



Mizzou Hosts Auburn

The Mizzou Tigers will go for the upset when they host number-14 Auburn at Mizzou Arena tonight. The Tigers are on a 16-game losing streak after falling to Ole Miss 84-78 on Saturday. Mizzou is in last place in the SEC with an 0-and-16 conference record and an 8-and-21 mark overall. Tonight's game tips off at 8:00PM.

Blues Take Down Wild

The Blues snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Minnesota Wild 3-1 at Enterprise Center on Saturday. The Blues opened the scoring when Alexey Toropchenko scored in the seventh minute of the game. The Wild tied the contest in the second before Jake Neighbours put St. Louis up for good. Torey Krug added an empty-netter in the third. The Blues are in fifth place in the Central Division with 65 points and a 31-26-and-3 record. St. Louis visits Philadelphia tonight.

Class 4 Sectionals 

Ali Daniels logged a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds leading Owensville to a 46-29 win over Booneville.  Audrey Quilacio added 13 points for the Dutchgirls, now 21-7.  Owensville outscored Booneville 21-5 in the fourth quarter.  The Dutchgirls advance to the quarterfinal at Aurora Friday night.  The Lady Houns,  25-4, beat Logan-Rogersville 54-40.  

Ursuline Academy hit the game winning shot at the horn to beat St. James 54-53.  Evelyn Shane drained 20 points.  Ella Hunter added a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Brooklynn Williams chipped in 11 points.  St. James was down 7 with less than a minute left and took the lead with less than 10 seconds left.  Ursuline inbounded and hit the game winner at the horn.  St. James ends the season 21-7.  Ursuline, 24-5,  advances to the quarterfinal against Park Hills Central.  Emily Recker scored 18 and Kendall Costoplos 15 in the loss.  



Missouri State Men Head into Arch Madness Thursday

Missouri State will be the ninth seed men's basketball team headed into the "Arch Madness" opener Thursday in St. Louis. They'll face eighth-seeded Murray State in the game that starts March 7th at 12 noon. The Missouri Valley Conference Tournament will be played at Enterprise Center for the 30th time this week. It will feature a 12-team field that will play in sessions Thursday through Sunday.



College Basketball Wrap-Up

In other college basketball action on Saturday, Lindenwood lost to Morehead State 67-49, Western Illinois beat SIU-Edwardsville 76-65, and Southeast Missouri State edged Southern Indiana 70-66. On Sunday, Missouri State took down UIC 69-59, and Southern Illinois went down against Northern Iowa 82-70.



Billikens Pull Past Rhode Island

The Saint Louis Billikens came through in the clutch during a 94-91 win over Rhode Island at Ryan Center on Saturday. The game was tied at 85 with two minutes left before Larry Hughes-the-second sunk a pair of free throws to put Saint Louis up for good. Gibson Jimerson poured in 30 points in the win, while Hughes finished with 17. Saint Louis is in 14th place in the A-10 with a 4-and-12 conference record and an 11-and-18 mark overall. The Billikens host number-20 Dayton tomorrow night.



Tigers Comeback Falls Short

The Tigers trailed by 19 at halftime, but they fought back within one possession late in the second half before Ole Miss pulled away. Sean East-the-second scored 27 points in the losing effort. Mizzou is in last place in the SEC with an 0-and-16 conference record and an 8-and-21 mark overall. The Tigers host number-11 Auburn tomorrow night.
