Wright Powers USA Past Puerto Rico

David Wright drove in five runs to power Team USA to a 7-1 win over Puerto Rico in their first game of their second round World Baseball Classic pool in Miami. Wright had an RBI fielder's choice in the third and an RBI single in the fifth, followed by a three-run double in the eighth. Joe Mauer and Adam Jones also drove in runs while Gio Gonzalez turned in a stellar outing on the mound. Gonzalez tossed five innings of three-hit ball while striking out five for the Americans. Team USA earns a day off with the victory and will meet the Dominican Republic on Thursday. Puerto Rico goes into the loser's bracket and will play an elimination game against Italy on Wednesday.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Senior Running Back Jared Rennick. He carried the ball 19 times for 197 yards and two touchdowns in Friday's 34-12 win over St. Clair. Jared also wrestles and he is a good student with a 3.0 GPA. His favorite football team other than the Blue Jays is the Missouri Tigers.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.
