Quincy advances to the semifinal Sunday

Washington beat the Hawthorne Outlaws from Lee's Summit 4-2 to finish 4-0 in pool play. Justin Shuler pitched a complete game and receives the Reggie Award.

Washington also blanked Geiger Redi Mix from Leavenworth, Kansas 14-0.
Washington will play Quincy in the quarterfinal Saturday at 12:30.

Washington improved to 2-0 in pool play at the Blue Springs Wood Bat Tournament with a 4-2 win over Bellevue, Nebraska Thursday afternoon. Mitch Hammack pitched a complete game with five strike outs and three walks. Nick Thiel and Ross Seitter had two hits apiece. Thiel, Seth Bollmann and Sam Katzung had one rbi each. Washington improved to 24-9 on the season.

Quarterfinal and Cross over games are scheduled Saturday with the semifinals and championship Sunday.

District Tournaments
Juniors
It was a wild one in the winners bracket with extra innings and a big Rally for Washington Post 218. Washington and St. Peters were tied at seven after seven and it stayed that way until the tenth when St. Peters scored four runs to take an 11-7 lead. Washington stormed back to score five runs and win it 12-11. Michael Sinnott squeezed home the winning run. Isaiah West picked up the win. Washington will play for the district championship at 5:00 Saturday evening. The game will be broadcast live on KLPW-AM 1220.
Union was knocked out of the tournament with a 6-3 loss to Elsberry.

Freshman
Washington beat St. Charles 6-0 behind the pitching of Eli Marquart. He tossed a complete game two hitter. Tyler Patton had a good night at the plate with a double and two rbi. Washington will play for the district championship at 4:00 Saturday afternoon.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Senior Running Back Jared Rennick. He carried the ball 19 times for 197 yards and two touchdowns in Friday's 34-12 win over St. Clair. Jared also wrestles and he is a good student with a 3.0 GPA. His favorite football team other than the Blue Jays is the Missouri Tigers.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.
