Washington Post 218 American Legion Baseball

Seniors
Washington posted two wins Friday. Post 218 defeated Post 189 Lee's Summit 16-7 in the early game and followed up with a 6-2 win over Elsberry to wrap up first place in Pool D with a 4-0 record.
Washington will play Warrensburg at 5:30 Saturday in the quarterfinal.

Juniors
Washington is hosting the 9th District postseason tournament this week. Post 218 advanced to the championship game with an 11-5 win over Pacific Thursday night. Aaron Meyer pitched a complete game. Washington is back in action Saturday afternoon at 1:00.

Freshman
Washington took another step out of the loser's bracket in the 9th District Tournament with a 4-3 win over St. Peters Friday evening in Elsberry. Washington will play at noon Saturday.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Volleyball Player Jordan Kriete from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Jordan played all the way around on a team that finished the season 26-7-2. Her statistics are impressive.

When people threaten violence or blankly label one as a racist, it's very hard to listen. The same holds true for those who sum up the plight of impoverished black communities as "that's how those people are."

The St. Louis Cardinals are exercising the 2015 option on pitcher John Lackey. The 36-year-old right-hander will earn the league minimum 500-thousand-dollars after making 15.25-million each of the last three seasons. Lackey was acquired from Boston at the trade deadline and his contract had a clause allowing for a league-minimum option after missing the entire 2012 season due to elbow surgery.
