Washington took second in the Blue Springs Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend. Post 218 knocked off West 4-1 in the semifinal but then fell 4-2 to Jefferson City Post 5 in the title game. Cole Distler pitched a complete game holding Washington to five hits to get the win. Jefferson City is now 32-4 on the season. Washington is 31-6 and will now prepare for the 9th District Tournament this week. Jefferson City center fielder Trevor Schnieders was named the MPV

Freshman
Washington battled out of the elimination bracket to win the 9th District Postseason Tournament Title Sunday afternoon. Post 218 received a first round bye, then suffered a second round loss to Wentzville, but stormed back to beat Wentzville twice in the championship round to take the crown. It wasn't even close in the final game-14-0. Will Davis pitched five innings for the win.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Basketball Player Hailey Diestelkamp with the Owensville Dutchgirls. She recently became the all-time scoring leader at Owensville High School surpassing Katie Davis. Hailey played volleyball her first two years of high school, but after suffering an injury playing basketball last summer, she decided to focus on basketball this year. Hailey runs track in the spring.

It came as a shock to a lot of people to find out that the contract for the Union license office, which has been operated by the Union Chamber of Commerce since the 1970's, was being turned over to a for-profit company based out of Jefferson City.

What happened? It's a classic case of two all-too-common phenomena in the world of government--unintended consequences and the revolving door.

Saint Louis erased a nine-point second half deficit and had a shot to win it late, but fell 60-56 against UMass Saturday in a thrilling Atlantic 10 Conference game at Chaifetz Arena. It was the fourth loss in a row for the Billikens, who fall to 9-12 overall and 1-7 in league play. UMass improves to 12-9 overall and 5-3 in the A-10. The Billikens had the ball down by two with the shot clock off.
