Wainwright Named Opening Day Starter

Cardinals skipper Mike Matheny named Adam Wainwright the opening day starter for 2014 campaign. Wainwright will toe the rubber for the second consecutive season on opening day for the Red Birds. Last season, Wainwright notched 19 victories to nine losses and posted career highs in innings and strikeouts. The right handed pitcher also tied his career high for games started with 34.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Swimmer Michael Matthews from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Michael medalled in two events at the state swim meet at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. He took 7th in the 50-Yard Freestyle and 4th in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Michael also medalled in four events in the AAA Conference meet, helping Borgia secure the conference title.

Max Pacioretty scored twice on his 26th birthday as the Canadiens cruised to a 4-1 win over the Blues at the Bell Centre. Vladimir Tarasenko scored the lone goal in the first period for St. Louis, which fell to 0-and-2 on its four-game road trip. Jake Allen allowed all four goals on 30 shots in the setback. The Blues skate in Ottawa tomorrow.
