Syracuse New Number One In Men's College Hoop

Syracuse is the new number-one team in the "USA Today" top-25 men's college basketball poll. The undefeated Orange received all 32 first-place votes to take over the top spot from Arizona, which lost at Cal on Saturday. Syracuse knocked off Notre Dame 61-55 on Monday night at home to improve to 22-and-0 on the season. Unbeaten Wichita State moved up to second, with Arizona dropping two spots to third. Florida is fourth, followed by San Diego State. Villanova, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Kansas and Louisville round out the top-10. UMass and Memphis fell out of this week's poll. St. Louis U. moved up to 15th this week.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Golfer Brad Carpenter from Washington High School. In a recent match against Fort Zumwalt South at Wolf Hollow, Brad carded a six under par 29 to lead the team to a 148-176 win over the Bulldogs. Brad will attend Missouri State University in Springfield on a golf and academic scholarship. He started playing golf at the age of 12 and developed an immediate love for the game.

Wily Peralta pitched one-run ball into the seventh inning as the Brewers beat the Cardinals 5-1 at Miller Park. Peralta allowed six hits and a walk over six and a third innings to improve to 2-and-0 with the win. Aramis Ramirez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jonathan Lucroy singled home two runs for Milwaukee, which salvaged the finale of the three-game series. Joe Kelly gave up just an unearned run in four innings, but took the loss.
