Senior Legion Baseball-Wednesday, July 2

In senior legion baseball last night, Washington routed St. Peters 11-1 in seven innings at Ronsick Field. Austin Finder was the winning pitcher. He went five innings with eight strike outs and two walks. Justin Shuler pitched the sixth and seventh to close it out. Finder also had two hits, including a triple, reached base three times and scored three runs. Noah Borgerding doubled twice and scored two runs. Post 218 improves to 18-9 overall and 10-5 in 9th district action. St. Peters drops to 12-14 and 6-8.

Washington is back in action this evening with a game against St. Charles at Blanchette Park. Game time is 6:00 on KLPW-AM 1220. Aaron Meyer is the scheduled starter.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Basketball Player Hailey Diestelkamp with the Owensville Dutchgirls. She recently became the all-time scoring leader at Owensville High School surpassing Katie Davis. Hailey played volleyball her first two years of high school, but after suffering an injury playing basketball last summer, she decided to focus on basketball this year. Hailey runs track in the spring.

It came as a shock to a lot of people to find out that the contract for the Union license office, which has been operated by the Union Chamber of Commerce since the 1970's, was being turned over to a for-profit company based out of Jefferson City.

What happened? It's a classic case of two all-too-common phenomena in the world of government--unintended consequences and the revolving door.
