Senior Legion Baseball-Friday, June 27

Washington Post 218 is back on the field this evening with a home game against Wentzville. These two met back on June 3rd at Fireman's Park with Wentzville posting a 6-5 win. Washington is coming off a 14-3 win over St. Peters Wednesday night and is 15-7 overall and 7-3 in the 9th District. Evan Ayers is the scheduled starter. Game time is 7:00 on KLPW-AM 1220. The Game will be broadcast live on KLPW-AM 1220 from Ronsick Field.

It's also theme night at the ballpark. A reunion is planned for the 1993 and 1994 legion teams.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

After a day off, the Cardinals return to the diamond tonight for the first of a three-game series with the Padres from Petco Park. St. Louis is 56-and-48 this season and trots Lance Lynn to the hill. Lynn is 11-and-7 with a 3.05 ERA. San Diego counters with 9-and-10 Tyson Ross who has a 2.65 ERA this season. First pitch is at 9:10.
