Senior Legion Baseball

Washington lost to Wentzville 6-5 at Fireman's Park. Post 218 committed six errors and dropped to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in 9th District action. Justin Shuler gave up five runs, three earned, on nine hits through five innings. Sam Katzung had two hits while Noah Borgerding, Seth Bollmann and Spencer Juergens had one hit apiece.

In Junior Legion ball, Union beat Washington 12-8.

Our next broadcast game is Wednesday night when Washington hosts St. Charles at Ronsick Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 on KLPW-AM 1220.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Volleyball Player Jordan Kriete from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Jordan played all the way around on a team that finished the season 26-7-2. Her statistics are impressive.

When people threaten violence or blankly label one as a racist, it's very hard to listen. The same holds true for those who sum up the plight of impoverished black communities as "that's how those people are."

The St. Louis Cardinals are exercising the 2015 option on pitcher John Lackey. The 36-year-old right-hander will earn the league minimum 500-thousand-dollars after making 15.25-million each of the last three seasons. Lackey was acquired from Boston at the trade deadline and his contract had a clause allowing for a league-minimum option after missing the entire 2012 season due to elbow surgery.
