Scott Suggs-Athlete of the Week

Washington High School graduate and University of Washington men's basketball player Scott Suggs has been named the Go-Huskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of December 10th-through-16th. Suggs averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, shooting 60% from the field and 55.6% from 3-point range in helping Washington to a 2-0 record during the week. Suggs poured in a career-high 24 points, grabbed five rebounds, had two steals and two assists as the Huskies won an Emerald City battle at Seattle University 87-74 on Thursday. The senior made 7-of-10 shots, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and was perfect from the line (8-8). Besides setting new career highs in points, his five rebounds and two steals equaled previous personal bests. Suggs' efforts helped Washington win their first road game of the season for just the second time in Lorenzo Romar's 11-year coaching career.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Seth Schenck. The New Haven Junior won the state title in the the 800 meter run at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. His time of 1:59.20 set a new school record. Seth also took second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:30.49 and anchored the 4X800 relay team that captured seventh place. Seth also played basketball and ran cross country in his junior year at New Haven.

Union High School has hired a new girls basketball coach. Dusty Weiskopf is a graduate of Sullivan High School and University of Missouri-St. Louis. He replaces Grant Young who left Union to take the boys basketball coaching job at Washington High. His teaching duties include Health and PE. This past season, Weiskopf was an assistant coach at Waynesville High School, under Coach Chris Pilz.
