Mike McCall Jr. scored 16 points to lead Saint Louis over Savannah State 67-59 Friday night, extending their winning streak to eight games. McCall was 5 of 7 from the field. Cody Ellis scored 15 points, and Kwamain Mitchell had 13.
The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Seth Schenck. The New Haven Junior won the state title in the the 800 meter run at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. His time of 1:59.20 set a new school record. Seth also took second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:30.49 and anchored the 4X800 relay team that captured seventh place. Seth also played basketball and ran cross country in his junior year at New Haven.
Undoubtedly, the capture of Boston marathon bombing "Suspect #2"--as named by law enforcement--has quickly brought the issue of Islamic terrorism to the forefront.
Lance Lynn tossed six scoreless frames to guide the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game set. Lynn gave up just two hits and struck out nine to pick up the win. David Freese went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI and Allen Craig added a pair of hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three for the Cardinals, winners in four of their last five games.
