Rockies Crush Cards

Jorge De La Rosa took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the Rockies crushed the Cardinals, 8-2. David Freese singled with two outs in the seventh to break up De La Rosa's no-hitter. Pinch-hitter Matt Adams and Pete Kozma drove in a run each in the ninth inning for the Cards, who had won their previous three and lost for just the second time in 11 games. Jaime Garcia fanned seven in six frames, but all five runs to fall to 4-and-2. The Cardinals and Mets start a four-game series in New York tonight.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed pitcher Jake Westbrook on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of right elbow inflammation. The move is retroactive to May 9th. Westbrook is 2-and-1 with a 1.62 earned run average over seven starts. St. Louis plans to purchase pitcher John Gast from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday where the left-hander will make his MLB debut versus the New York Mets. Gast is 3-and-1 this season with Memphis and has a 1.16 ERA over six starts.

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras left yesterday's against against the Fresno Grizzlies. The Memphis Redbirds center fielder was 2-for-5 with a run scored prior to injuring his ankle in the ninth inning while stealing a base. He was ranked by multiple outlets as the third-best prospect in all of baseball coming into this season.

I have been behind the microphone for 10 years now. In the course of time, I have covered many elections and have seen first-hand how bruising and hurtful campaigns can be to people. None have been as difficult to watch, however, as the annexation battle in Washington--which pitted good people who care about their community against good people who care about their community.
