Leadoff man Gregory Polanco went hitless but walked twice and scored two runs for Pittsburgh, which avoided the four-game sweep. Russell Martin was 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI for the Bucs. Edinson Volquez allowed the run over nine innings to improve to 8-and-6. Shelby Miller gave up four runs in five innings for the loss. Matt Carpenter hit a sac-fly in the third for the lone St. Louis run.
