Palace Malice Wins Belmont Stakes

Palace Malice is the winner of the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes. Palace Malice paid $29.60 to win and continued a recent trend in Thoroughbred racing, being the sixth time since 2006 that different horses won each of the three legs of the Triple Crown. Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow came in second, followed by Kentucky Derby winner Orb. Palace Malice came in 12th in this year's Derby, then skipped the Preakness. This was jockey Mike Smith's second career Belmont win, having also won in 2010 aboard Drosselmeyer. Affirmed remains the last Triple Crown winner in 1978.
