Palace Malice Wins Belmont Stakes

Palace Malice is the winner of the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes. Palace Malice paid $29.60 to win and continued a recent trend in Thoroughbred racing, being the sixth time since 2006 that different horses won each of the three legs of the Triple Crown. Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow came in second, followed by Kentucky Derby winner Orb. Palace Malice came in 12th in this year's Derby, then skipped the Preakness. This was jockey Mike Smith's second career Belmont win, having also won in 2010 aboard Drosselmeyer. Affirmed remains the last Triple Crown winner in 1978.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Borgia Freshman Golfer Thomas Alferman. Alferman is a member of the Borgia team that qualified for the state tournament at Silo Ridge in Boliver this week. In the district tournament at the Sullivan Country Club, Thomas shot a 13 over par 84 helping the team to a second place finish.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.
