Mizzou's Michael Sam To Receive Arthur Ashe Courage Award

Mizzou defensive end Michael Sam is the winner of this year's Arthur Ashe Courage Award. The SEC defensive player of the year this season is poised to become the first openly gay player in NFL history if he is drafted this week. The selection was made official this morning in New York and he'll receive the award in July at the ESPYs.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Running Back/Defensive Back Jonathan Braun with the St. Francis Borgia Knight Football Team. Braun ran the ball 21 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night's 31-19 win over the Union Wildcats, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. He also plays defensive back where he made one tackle.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.

Starling Marte finished with three hits and three RBI as the Bucs snapped a four-game skid. Carlos Martinez gave up seven hits and four runs to take the loss for St. Louis. Cody Stanley notched a pinch-hit two-run single in defeat.
