The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored. As a pitcher, he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.631 and a WHIP of .961.

Matt Carpenter hit a lead-off home run and the Cardinals cruised to a 7-0 shutout of the Rockies at Busch Stadium. Jhonny Peralta added a two-run shot while Stephen Piscotty drove in two in the win. Michael Wacha fired seven frames and struck out seven to improve to 12-and-4 as St. Louis improved to 6-and-3 on its current homestand. Kyle Kendrick lasted one inning before being lifted with right shoulder inflammation to slip to 4-and-12.
