Missouri And Saint Louis In Action This Weekend

Laurence Bowers matched his career high with 23 points despite taking just one shot in the second half, leading No. 16 Missouri to an easy 72-56 victory over Appalachian State. The Tigers are 6-1.

Just a day after the death of their head coach Rick Majerus, the Saint Louis Billikens returned to the court to claim a 62-49 win over the Valparaiso Crusaders at Chaifetz Arena. Majerus left the team earlier in the season due to health concerns and he passed away on Saturday from a heart condition at the age of 64. Jim Crews has been serving as interim head coach. Dwayne Evans led the way with 17 points for Saint Louis. Jordair Jett tallied 14 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, while Mike McCall, Jr. added 10 points.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Seth Schenck. The New Haven Junior won the state title in the the 800 meter run at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. His time of 1:59.20 set a new school record. Seth also took second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:30.49 and anchored the 4X800 relay team that captured seventh place. Seth also played basketball and ran cross country in his junior year at New Haven.

Lance Lynn tossed six scoreless frames to guide the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game set. Lynn gave up just two hits and struck out nine to pick up the win. David Freese went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI and Allen Craig added a pair of hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three for the Cardinals, winners in four of their last five games.
