Local High School Sports Scoreboard-Monday, April 22

The Pacific Indians erased a four run deficit to come back and beat the Union Wildcats 9-6 at East Central College. Union jumped out to the lead with four in the first inning chasing Indian starter Zeth Boyer after just two thirds of an inning. Pacific chipped away scoring two in the second, tied it in the fourth and took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Union came back to tie it in the home half of the fifth inning but then the Indians rallied with three in the seventh to improve to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in conference. Union drops to 3-6 and 2-2. Ryan Howell was the winning pitcher. He also had four hits with two runs scored and two batted in. Ashton Dehn went the distance for Union and took the loss.

Golf...
Sullivan took first in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament at Birch Creek. The Eagles finished with a team score of 314. St. Clair was second with a 358 and Pacific took third with a 361. Ryan Juergens of Sullivan was the top individual golfer. He finished regulation with a 75, tied with teammate Gavin Yociss and then won the title in the second hole of a play-off

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Baseball Player Kyle Ruediger from New Haven High School. At the plate, Kyle has a team leading .486 average with 14 rbi, two triples and six doubles. He has struck out just five times while drawing 11 walks. Kyle has seven stolen bases on the year. He plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Early Thursday morning, I received news that vandals had broken in to St. Francis Borgia Grade School in Washington, causing extensive damage to several classrooms and offices. School was closed for the day as the Washington Police Department went about their business of securing what had changed from a school community to a crime scene overnight.
