Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.

Two Cardinals have been voted to start for the National League in next week's All-Star Game. Outfielder Matt Holliday and shortstop Jhonny Peralta were selected by the fans. Holliday is currently on the disabled list with a quad injury but may return this week. Pitchers, reserves and the Final Vote candidates will be revealed tonight.
