Local High School Hoops-Thursday, February 28

It's a doubleheader of high school basketball Thursday night. We'll start with the Class 4 District 9 boys semifinal between Borgia and St. Clair at Pacific High School at 6:00. Following that game, we'll take you to Rolla High School for the Class 5 District 10 boys championship game between Washington and Waynesville at 7:30. We will also update the Washington/Waynesville girls game and the Pacific/Sullivan boys game this evening. The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

After a day off, the Cardinals return to the diamond tonight for the first of a three-game series with the Padres from Petco Park. St. Louis is 56-and-48 this season and trots Lance Lynn to the hill. Lynn is 11-and-7 with a 3.05 ERA. San Diego counters with 9-and-10 Tyson Ross who has a 2.65 ERA this season. First pitch is at 9:10.
