Local High School Basketball Scoreboard-Tuesday, December 18

Washington posted a 51-40 win over the Pacific Indians. Ronnie Suggs led all scorers with 19-points followed by Jared Walde and Luke Schroepfer with 10 apiece. Zeth Boyer scored 14 for the Indians. Tanner Brown pumped in 11. Cullen VanLeer scored seven points, dished out eight assists and pulled down six rebounds. Washington improves to 6-2 while the Indians dropped to 6-3.

Elsewhere...

Sullivan 46 Festus 32. The Eagles improve to 7-2.

New Haven posted a 52-32 win over New Bloomfield.

Blair Oaks beat Hermann 67-57. The Bearcats were led by John Baumstark and Craig Winkelmann with 15 points apiece. Brett Voss scored a dozen for the Falcons.

St. Clair downed Northwest 51-42.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

Yangervis Solarte and the San Diego Padres try to secure a series victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night in the middle contest of a three-game series at Petco Park. Acquired from the New York Yankees in the deal that sent third baseman Chase Headley to the Bronx, Solarte is hitting .286 with six RBI in seven games with the Padres.
