Girls Class 3 Third Place Game
Hermann rebounded from Thursday's semifinal loss to beat Saxony Lutheran 68-53 Friday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. Hermann shot 52 percent from the floor and hit eight three's and finished 18-of-25 from the line. Karianne Lane scored 26 and Tesla Ruediger added 18 as Hermann ends the season 28-2 under Todd Anderson.

Girls Class 2 Third Place Game
New Franklin pulled down 16 offensive rebounds in a 51-38 win over the New Haven Shamrocks Friday evening. Rachel Steinhoff led the way for New Haven with 14 points followed by Stephanie Gerling with 10. The game was tied at 18 at the half, but the Bulldogs outscored New Haven 33-20 in the second half. Jasmyne Boggs paced New Franklin with 19 points and 12 rebounds. New Haven was in double digits in turnovers for the second day in a row with 10 while the Bulldogs committed just six.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

Shelby Miller and three relievers combined on a three-hitter as the Cardinals beat the Padres 6-2 to avoid a three-game sweep from Petco Park. Miller improved to 8-and-8 after throwing six innings of two-run ball. Oscar Taveras hit a two-run homer, and Matt Holiday drove in pair of runs in the victory. St. Louis roughed up rookie Odrisamer Despaigne for six runs on nine hits in five-and-two-thirds innings.
