Local College Sports Update

East Central Softball (11-6) hit the road for the beginning of spring break and also hit the ball with determination. The first two double headers of the road trip had the Falcons coming up big with four victories. The double header against Missouri Valley JV went all for the Falcons with wins of 11-1 and 23-1. Chelsea Bax and Sarah Westhoff collected the wins pitching for the Falcons and the entire team contributed to the hit parade. Haley Zenner led the charge with seven RBI and the rest of the team was right behind her. Elaine Shoenberger, Kaitlin Evans, Michelle Bryant, Ashley Hill, Sarah Westhoff, Alex Adelsberger and Brittany Miller all had multiple hit games.

The Ft. Scott Community College games were closer in the score book as the Falcons ended up winning 5-4 and 6-0 over the Greyhounds. Ashley Hill and Rachel Micke were the winning pitchers in the contests respectively. A tough first game had the Falcons down early 3-0, but they clawed their way back to win the game in the top of the seventh inning. Brittany Miller collected two RBI in the game to lead ECC offensively. The second game was all ECC as Kaitlin Evans and Haley Zenner both registered two RBI each in the 6-0 victory.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is 6-7 Junior Center Alex Movila from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. He scored a combined 61-points in three games of the Borgia/Pepsi Thanksgiving Tournament last week. Alex led the team in all three games with 21 against Fatima in the first round and 16 in the second round against Carnahan and 24 against North Tech in the Gold Championship game.

The Blues hit the ice tonight facing the Panthers at the Scottrade Center. St. Louis beat the Blue Jackets, 3-1, on Saturday to get to 15-6-and-3. Florida is 10-9-and-4.
