Local College Sports Update

The East Central College Volleyball Falcons are 5-7 on the season as they defeated Central Methodist JV away on Monday. ECC lost a tightly contested MCCAC match to the Mineral Area College Cardinals last night at home by scores of 25-23, 20-25, 8-25, 25-21, 6-15. The Falcons fought hard in a back and forth match, but came up short in the fifth set.

The East Central College Soccer Falcons are 3-4 on the season and had an up and down week as well. On Monday, the Falcons knocked off the McKendree University JV Bearcats 2-1 for their third victory. ECC lost yesterday in an away match to undefeated Lincoln Land by a score of 4-1.

The East Central College Softball Falcons were at home over the past weekend in an exhibition double header against the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats’ varsity team. ECC had a good showing by recording 3-3 and 2-2 ties in the seven inning limit games.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Cross Country Runner Julia McIntyre from New Haven High School. Julia finished sixth in the state meet in Jefferson City with a time of 20:58.40 at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City earlier this month. She helped her team to a 12th place finish. Julia was a straight A student at Franklin County R-2 and she continues to get A's in high school.

Troy Brouwer and Robby Fabbri each scored third period goals to help the Blues rally to sink the Sabres 2-1 at the First Niagara Center. Jake Allen stopped 24 of 25 shots for St. Louis, which improved to 14-6-and-2. The Blues play at Pittsburgh tomorrow.
