Local College Sports

As the first week of competition comes to an end for the Falcons’ fall sports teams, each team has collected victories at home and on the road. ECC Soccer has improved to 2-0 with a 3-0 road win over Danville Area Community College. ECC Volleyball (2-3) knocked of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy at home on Tuesday in a tight match by scores 12-25,25-23,25-21,24-26,15-12. A last set nail biter had the Falcons finishing on top.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Cross Country Runner Julia McIntyre from New Haven High School. Julia finished sixth in the state meet in Jefferson City with a time of 20:58.40 at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City earlier this month. She helped her team to a 12th place finish. Julia was a straight A student at Franklin County R-2 and she continues to get A's in high school.

Scottie Upshall scored the game-winning goal early in the third period to help the Blues slip by the Blue Jackets 3-1 at the Scottrade Center. Vladimir Tarasenko added his 14th goal of the season and Jake Allen made 23 saves to earn the win for St. Louis, which improved to 15-6-and-3. Ryan Johansen tallied the lone goal for Columbus, which had won two straight. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 29 of 31 shots in the loss.
