Local College Softball

East Central College Softball finished the 2014 regular season campaign with a 27-20 record knocking off MCCAC conference rival Three Rivers in the second game of a double header on Wednesday. The Falcons came back in the bottom of the 7th inning to seal the victory by a score of 4-3. The Falcons couldn’t create much offense in the first game against Three Rivers and dropped it 5-0.

The Falcons start the NJCAA Region 16 DII Softball Tournament tomorrow April 25, 2014 at Noon in Farmington, MO. East Central College secured the #1 seed and will face Cottey College in the first game of the tournament. The second game will be played at 2:00p.m. with a potential match-up of facing the winner of Mineral Area College and St. Louis Community College.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is 6-0 Senior Forward Megan Jensen with the St. Francis Borgia Girls Basketball Team. Megan scored 24 points leading Borgia to a 52-47 win over Cardinal Ritter in the championship game of the Borgia/Competitive Edge Tournament Saturday afternoon. In three tournament games last week. Megan scored 63 points and earned MVP honors.

When our daughter turned 13, as part of her birthday celebration we drove 13 seventh-grade girls to the mall. As one of the drivers, I can attest that a vanload of young adolescent girls generates plenty of chatter...and plenty of drama.

The Blues piled up three first period goals as they knocked off the Panthers, 5-3 at the BB&T Center. David Backes, Jaden Schwartz, and Robby Fabbri all scored in the final eight minutes of the first period to put St. Louis up for good. Brian Elliott had 29 saves in the win. Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and assist for the Panthers, who have lost three of four. Roberto Luongo gave up three goals on 13 shots before getting pulled.
