Local American Legion Baseball

Washington beat the Central Spartans for the second time in less than two weeks last night, posting a 12-2 win in seven innings. Jared Walde pitched a complete game with seven-strike outs and four walks. Washington banged out 13-hits lead by Noah Borgerding with a double and two singles. Tony Helfrich, Trent Leimkuehler and Grant Eckelkamp finshed with two hits apiece. Washington improves to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the 9th District while Central dips to 0-2 both overall and in league play. David Evans suffered the loss.

Washington is off tonight. They will swing back into action Friday evening with a home game against the West Jaguars. Game time is 7:00. It's "Veteran's Appreciation Night" at Ronsick Field. Veterans attending the game will be recognized and will be able to buy one sandwich and get one free at the concession stand.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Owensville Sophomore Cross Country Runner Carter Bracato. Carter finished 13th in Class 3 with the best time of any local runner at state. He attacked the Oak Hill Golf Club Course in Jefferson City finishing with a time of 16:50.67, leading Owensville to a 6th place finish in the team standings. Carter medalled in several events this season.

"No Justice, No Peace"

Certainly, there was no peace on the streets of Ferguson on the night the grand jury announced it would not indict police officer Darren Wilson for the shooting of Michael Brown.

The images of a city burning were disturbing, saddening and sickening. Every business torched leaves in its wake families who have lost their source of income, and a community that will find it that much harder to rebuild.

Cullen VanLeer scored 32 points in the first game of his final season at Pacific High School in a 64-22 win over Rockwood Summit. Cameron VanLeer and Noah Boyer added 13 apiece. Summit was led by Alex Banta with six points.
