Liriano Tosses Gem As Pirates Beat Cardinals

Francisco Liriano dominated on the mound to help the Pirates to a 5-0 win over the Cardinals at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Liriano allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six over eight innings to improve to 15-and-6. Garrett Jones went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI to lead the Bucs while Russell Martin added a solo shot of his own. Pittsburgh has won two out of three following a three-game skid. Shelby Miller gave up five runs in four-and-a-third innings for St. Louis and fell to 12-and-9. Matt Holliday was 2-for-3 with a walk in defeat as the Cards dropped their second straight after winning six out of seven. The two teams are now tied atop the NL Central with identical 78-and-56 records.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Sophomore Baseball Player Drew Reed with the Union Wildcats. Drew is off to a terrific start to the season. In ten official at bats, Drew has an average of .700, seven hits, five singles and two doubles, and leads the team with six runs batted in. Number one position is catcher, but coach Ryan Bailey will also use him as a pitcher.
