Jett Takes Over, Powers Billikens to Win at La Salle

Jordair Jett drove to the lane through three La Salle players to net the game-winning layup with 3.7 seconds left to give No. 13 Saint Louis a 65-63 victory over the Explorers on Saturday. Jett scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half. Dwayne Evans added 14 points for the Billikens (22-2, 9-0 A-10), who have won 16 straight for the first time in a single-season. Jerrell Wright netted 21 and had eight rebounds, and Steve Zack scored 15 points and grabbed 13 boards for the Explorers (12-11, 4-5), who have lost five of their last six. Tyreek Duren contributed 14 points in the defeat. Tyrone Garland's half-court shot hit high off the backboard as the buzzer sounded.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Varsity Soccer Goalie Camron Shipley. Camron made countless saves in Washington's 1-0 win over Borgia Saturday night at Jim Scanlan Stadium at Washington High School. The game was scoreless through regulation and two overtimes and Shipley only gave up one goal in the shootout. Camron is a senior and this is his first year playing soccer.

If you want to get someone's attention, whisper. That old investment brokerage ad is the opposite of what is going on regarding shootings in Ferguson and Tower Grove. When people threaten violence or blankly label one as a racist, it's very hard to listen. The same holds true for those who sum up the plight of impoverished black communities as "that's how those people are."
