Irish, Tide Battle For BCS Title

A pair of football powerhouses take the field at Sun Life Stadium tonight for the right to hoist the BCS Coaches' Trophy. Undefeated Notre Dame is looking to complete its first-ever 13-and-0 season and win its first national championship since the 1988 season. The Fighting Irish are 0-and-3 in BCS bowl games. Notre Dame is 5-and-1 all-time against Alabama dating back to 1973. The Crimson Tide lost to the Fighting Irish in the '73 Sugar Bowl but still earned enough votes to win the Coaches' championship. Bama won the SEC title game to move to 12-and-1 on the season. Alabama is looking to win its third BCS National Championship Game since 2009. The Tide defeated SEC-rival LSU to win the title last year. The SEC has won every BCS title game since its inception following the 2006 regular season.
