Fort Zumwalt South posted a 62-60 win over the Washington Blue Jays to clinch at least a share of the GAC Central Conference title. Brendan O'Brien hit the game winning three, his only basket of the night, with 17 seconds left. Marshawn Blackmon scored 23 for the Bulldogs with Preston Whitfield knocking down 18. Washington was led by Brad Carpenter, six three's and 23 points and Ronnie Suggs with 20. Zumwalt South improves to 19-3 and 6-1 while the Jays drop to 13-9 and 5-2.

Pacific 67 Hermann 45. The Indians were led by Cullen VanLeer with 25. Craig Winkelmann paced Hermann with 26.

St. James 64 Owensville 37. Levi Witt scored 20 for the Tigers while Matt Amptman pumped in 13 for the Dutchmen.

Sullivan 54 Union 45. Sullivan was led by Ryan Juergens with 19 points. Justin Biermann chipped in with 12

St. Clair 51 New Haven 33.

St. Charles West 81 Warrenton 49. Davis Soderburg drained 18 to lead four players in double figures in the victory.

Girls...
Eureka 72 Pacific 53. Eureka had four girls in double figures led by Kelsey Tepen with 18.

Rockwood Summit 51 Union 39.

Washington 47 Fort Zumwalt South 43. The Lady Jays clinched the GAC Central title improving to 6-0. Courtney Kedroski scored 19 and Kyra Hardesty added 17.

Hermann 58 Sullivan 53. Taylor Lucas pumped in 29 for Sullivan while Hermann was led by Karinne Lane with 16. Both are now 5-1 in the Four Rivers Conference chasing first place St. James.

Borgia 56 DuBourg 35. Janie Arand hit for 21 points followed by Megan Jenson with 10.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

St. Louis held training camp over the weekend but will be off today before resuming practice tomorrow. Quarterback Sam Bradford practiced on back-to-back days for the first time since suffering his season ending knee injury. St. Louis will put the pads on early this week as they prepare for their preseason contest against the Saints on August 8th.
