Former Mizzou QB Gabbert Named Jags Starter

Former Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert will be the starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars when they open the regular season. First-year head coach Gus Bradley made the announcement Monday. Gabbert had been competing in camp with veteran Chad Henne. Gabbert is going to miss the rest of the preseason with a hairline fracture in his right thumb, but will be under center for the Jags' regular-season opener September 8th against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is St. Clair Senior Guard Allison Hinson. After a season opening loss to Washington, Allison has helped St. Clair win four straight, which included the Clayton Tournament Championship. Allison is currently averaging more than 12 points and eight rebounds per game. She is sporting a 35% shooting percentage, hitting 36% on two's and 28% on three's.

Brent Burns scored with 38 seconds remaining in overtime, lifting the San Jose Sharks to a dramatic 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. The Sharks tied the game on Marc-Edouard Vlasic's goal with 20.6 seconds remaining in regulation and the goaltender pulled, then skated 4-on-3 thanks to Alexander Steen's tripping infraction with 2:03 remaining in overtime.
