Former Cy Young Winner Welch Dies

Former AL Cy Young Award winner Bob Welch is dead. He was 57. Welch spent 17 seasons in the big leagues, going 211-and-146 with a 3.47 ERA in 506 career games. He played 10 seasons with the Dodgers before spending his final seven years with the Athletics. Welch won the AL Cy Young Award in 1990 after winning 27 games with the A's. A cause of death was unavailable.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Cross Country Runner Julia McIntyre from New Haven High School. Julia finished sixth in the state meet in Jefferson City with a time of 20:58.40 at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City earlier this month. She helped her team to a 12th place finish. Julia was a straight A student at Franklin County R-2 and she continues to get A's in high school.
