East Central College Softball Update

The East Central College Softball Falcons have improved to 16-9 on the season as the team knocked off Lewis & Clark Community College 2-1 and 21-5 in Godfrey, IL. The team has been competing well despite a number of key injuries and an epidemic of sick players with influenza. Sarah Westhoff (Washington High School) recorded her sixth victory of the season in the 2-1 win. Alex Adelsberger (Wentzville Timberland) went 5 for 5 hitting in the second game. The Falcons are ranked 17th in the latest NJCAA poll.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Taylor Covington with the New Haven Track and Field Team. Taylor earned All-State honors medaling in four events at the state track meet at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Friday and Saturday. She ran anchor on the 4X800 relay team that finished in sixth place.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

In Senior Legion Baseball...
Washington improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 win over Creve Coeur at Ronsick Field. Matt Miller scored the winning run on a sac fly in foul ground off the bat of Matt McGilvray in the bottom of the seventh inning. The left fielder made a spectacular catch, but Miller tagged up and headed home with the winning run. Spencer Juergens was the winning pitcher.
