Cards Topple Giants

Carlos Martinez tossed five solid innings and knocked in two runs, as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants, 7-2, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Martinez (2-3) allowed one run on five hits while striking out six and walking one. Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals, who went 5-5 on a 10-
game road trip. Jon Jay, Shane Robinson and Oscar Taveras added an RBI apiece.
Madison Bumgarner (9-6) gave up five runs -- four earned -- on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks over five innings. Bumgarner had the only RBI for the Giants, who went 2-8 on a 10-game homestand.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Cross Country Runner Julia McIntyre from New Haven High School. Julia finished sixth in the state meet in Jefferson City with a time of 20:58.40 at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City earlier this month. She helped her team to a 12th place finish. Julia was a straight A student at Franklin County R-2 and she continues to get A's in high school.

Scottie Upshall scored the game-winning goal early in the third period to help the Blues slip by the Blue Jackets 3-1 at the Scottrade Center. Vladimir Tarasenko added his 14th goal of the season and Jake Allen made 23 saves to earn the win for St. Louis, which improved to 15-6-and-3. Ryan Johansen tallied the lone goal for Columbus, which had won two straight. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 29 of 31 shots in the loss.
