Back to back hits by Carlos Beltran and Allen Craig in the first inning led St. Louis to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs in the second of a four-game series. Beltran knocked in the first run with a triple and scored on Craig's base hit. Beltran also added a double later in the game and finished with three hits. Joe Kelly held the early lead and gave up one run on three hits in 5 1/3 innings in his third start of the season after working out of the bullpen at the start of the year. He added four strikeouts for St. Louis, which won for the sixth time in seven games.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Sullivan Senior Baseball Player Matt Foster. Matt pitched a no hitter against Union in a game at GCS Ballpark in Illinois Friday night. He struck out 13 batters and walked four while throwing 111 pitches. He also had one hit in the game. Matt is also very good with the bat. His .520 average and 14 runs batted in leads the team.

Early Thursday morning, I received news that vandals had broken in to St. Francis Borgia Grade School in Washington, causing extensive damage to several classrooms and offices. School was closed for the day as the Washington Police Department went about their business of securing what had changed from a school community to a crime scene overnight.
