Cards Named 8th Most Valuable Team

The St. Louis Cardinals are the eighth most valuable franchise in Major League Baseball. "Forbes" released its annual list yesterday. The Cards are worth 820-million-dollars, a 15-percent jump from last year. The New York Yankees are atop the list at 2.5-billion-dollars.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Swimmer Michael Matthews from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Michael medalled in two events at the state swim meet at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. He took 7th in the 50-Yard Freestyle and 4th in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Michael also medalled in four events in the AAA Conference meet, helping Borgia secure the conference title.

The Islanders went on a 13-4 run during the game’s final 3:18 to turn a 52-49 deficit into a 62-56 victory. Ash Yacoubou, who led SLU with 13 points, hit a layup to give the Billikens a 52-49 lead with 4:39 remaining. But the Islanders promptly scored 10 unanswered points to grab the contest by the throat.
