Cards Head To New York

The Cardinals are headed to New York where they start a four-game series with the Mets tonight at Citi Field. Left-hander Tyler Lyons takes the hill for the Redbirds, taking the rotation spot of Joe Kelly. The Mets counter with Jenrry Mejia. First pitch is at 6:10.

The Nationals rallied for a run in the ninth to net a 3-2 win over the Cardinals yesterday in DC, as the teams split a four-game series. Shelby Miller went five-and-a-third innings scoreless while Seth Maness took the loss. Miller also knocked in a run while Matt Adams had two hits.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Borgia Freshman Golfer Thomas Alferman. Alferman is a member of the Borgia team that qualified for the state tournament at Silo Ridge in Boliver this week. In the district tournament at the Sullivan Country Club, Thomas shot a 13 over par 84 helping the team to a second place finish.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

The Royals could have played with just two players and been fine in a 5-0 shutout of the Cardinals from Kauffman Stadium. Chris Young fired six innings of six-hit ball to improve to 4-and-0. Young walked two and struck out two as the Royals picked up their fourth straight win. Kendrys Morales took care of the offense with a five RBI night. Morales belted a three-run and a two-run home run in the first and third innings.
