Cards Double Up Brewers

Matt Holliday singled in a pair of runs in the opening inning to help the Cardinals beat the Brewers, 4-2, at Busch Stadium. Yadier Molina went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Matt Carpenter doubled in a run to help St. Louis get back above .500 for the first time since Opening Day. Lance Lynn tossed five innings of one-run ball to pick up the win and Trevor Rosenthal closed it out for his third save.

The Cardinals and Brewers close out their three-game series with a day game today. John Lackey is slated to start for St. Louis, while Mike Fiers takes the hill for Milwaukee. First pitch is at 12:45 p.m. After today, the Cards host the Reds for three games starting tomorrow.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored. As a pitcher, he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.631 and a WHIP of .961.

The Washington Seniors are in Sedalia for the state tournament. Post 218 will begin play with a match-up against Manchester at 7:00 this evening. Washington is 33-3 on the season under Manager Mike Gardner. Manchester is 18-7. The game will be broadcast live on KLPW-AM 1220. The other game has Hillcrest going up against Fike-Post 499 from Blue Springs at 4:00.
