Cards Clip Astros

Matt Carpenter hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Cardinals held on for a 5-4 victory over the visiting Astros. Matt Holliday also knocked in two runs for St. Louis, which swept the two-game series in Missouri. Shelby Miller allowed three runs in five innings for a no decision. Seth Maness picked up the win while Edward Mujica added his 25th save.

Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.
