Cardinals Sign Shortstop Peralta

The Cardinals will have a new shortstop next season. The club signed former Detroit shortstop Jhonny Peralta to a four-year contract worth more than 50 million dollars, according to the "St. Louis Post Dispatch." Earlier this year, Peralta was suspended 50 games in the aftermath of the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug investigation. Cards GM Jon Mazeliak defended the signing Monday, saying the Cardinals are not the "morality police."
