Cardinals Shut Out Reds In Opener

Yadier Molina slugged a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning as the Cardinals beat the Reds 1-0 on Opening Day in Cincinnati. Adam Wainwright struck out nine over seven innings of three-hit ball for the win. Trevor Rosenthal pitched the ninth for his first save.

The Cardinals and Reds resume their opening three-game series in Cincinnati tomorrow night. Youngster Michael Wacha will take the ball for the Redbirds, while Cincinnati starts Tony Cingrani. Tomorrow's game at Great American Ball Park gets underway at 6:10 p.m.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is 5-6 Freshman Basketball Player Cassidy Moss from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Cassidy was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sullivan Tournament last week and was an important part of Borgia's run to the title. She is averaging 15 points and 2.5 rebounds, more than three assists and two steals per game.
