Cardinals Release McClellan

The Cardinals have released reliever Kyle McClellan. The right-hander made 244 relief appearances since 2008 and has a career 3.69 ERA. St. Louis also signed catcher Rob Johnson to a minor league deal. The 30-year-old split time between the Mets and their Triple-A team in Buffalo last season.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny received a single third-place vote for National League Manager of the Year. Matheny finished tied for fifth with Padres manager Bud Black. The vote came from David Lennon of "Newsday" in the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Nationals skipper Davey Johnson won the award.
