Cardinals Open Season In Cincinnati

The Cardinals lift the lid on the 2014 season today, taking on the Reds at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. Adam Wainwright takes the ball for the Redbirds, while Cincy sends Johnny Cueto to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 this afternoon.

Cardinals second baseman Mark Ellis will start the season on the disabled list. The veteran aggravated a sore knee last week in Florida. Infielder Pete Kozma will open the season on the 25-man roster, while rookie Kolten Wong starts at second base.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Cross Country Runner Julia McIntyre from New Haven High School. Julia finished sixth in the state meet in Jefferson City with a time of 20:58.40 at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City earlier this month. She helped her team to a 12th place finish. Julia was a straight A student at Franklin County R-2 and she continues to get A's in high school.
