Cardinals' Motte Has Successful Elbow Surgery

St. Louis Cardinals closer Jason Motte is recovering from successful surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right elbow. The 30-year-old is expected to be sidelined one full year. Motte did not pitch in a game this season after being shut down with an elbow strain during spring training. The right-hander tied for the NL lead in saves last season with 42.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Swimmer Michael Matthews from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Michael medalled in two events at the state swim meet at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. He took 7th in the 50-Yard Freestyle and 4th in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Michael also medalled in four events in the AAA Conference meet, helping Borgia secure the conference title.

Max Pacioretty scored twice on his 26th birthday as the Canadiens cruised to a 4-1 win over the Blues at the Bell Centre. Vladimir Tarasenko scored the lone goal in the first period for St. Louis, which fell to 0-and-2 on its four-game road trip. Jake Allen allowed all four goals on 30 shots in the setback. The Blues skate in Ottawa tomorrow.
