Cardinals Hold Off Reds

Yadier Molina went 3-for-5 with a solo homer as the Cardinals downed the Reds 7-5 at Busch Stadium. Kolten Wong and Matt Holliday each knocked in two runs for St. Louis while Lance Lynn notched the win. Trevor Rosenthal earned his third save in the victory.

The Redbirds wrap up their three-game series with the Reds this afternoon at Busch Stadium. St. Louis sends right-hander Shelby Miller to the hill as he looks to bounce back from his rough first start. Cincinnati counters with Mike Leake. First pitch is set for 12:45.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Running Back/Defensive Back Jonathan Braun with the St. Francis Borgia Knight Football Team. Braun ran the ball 21 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night's 31-19 win over the Union Wildcats, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. He also plays defensive back where he made one tackle.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.

The Cardinals are back home tonight to open a nine-game homestand at Busch Stadium. They host the Nationals in the first of three games at 7:15 p.m. John Lackey is slated to oppose Washington's Gio Gonzalez. The Cards also play the Pirates and Cubs on this homestand.
