Cardinals Hold Off Padres

Jake Westbrook shined at the plate and on the mound as the Cardinals held off the surging Padres 9-6 at Busch Stadium. Westbrook went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for St. Louis, which has won three of its last four. On the mound, he allowed two runs in six-and-two-thirds innings for his sixth win. Matt Carpenter was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run in the win. Edward Mujica locked up his 27th save. Everth Cabrera knocked in two runs and scored once for San Diego, which has lost five-of-six. Jason Marquis allowed six runs in five-and-one-third frames for the loss. The Padres scored all their runs in the seventh inning and later.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is State Champion Wrestler Dalton Voyles from Pacific High School. Dalton won the class 3 title at 182 pounds with a 6-2 decision over Zach Courtoise of Kearney Saturday at the University of Missouri-Columbia. It caps off a tremendous season for Dalton with a 56-2 record. Dalton, who is very good on his feet, took control early in the bout in securing the win over Courtoise.

Paul Stastny netted the game-winner with 5:40 to play to give the Blues a 2-1 win over the Oilers at Rexall Place. Dmitrij Jaskin found the back of the net as well and Brian Elliot had 21 saves. The victory was St. Louis's fourth straight on the road. Ben Scrivens gave up both goals on 27 shots for Edmonton, which has dropped five of its last seven. Justin Schultz scored the Oilers' lone goal in the loss.
